I'm feeling lost without a printer. Preparing for lessons without one is not easy. Thus I'm wanting to buy a cheap one. Any ideas, tips?

hey jitkasan.

how cheap? i ask becuase you can get nice brand new printers these days for as little as 50 euros.

try a BOARD SEARCH on "printer", "computers" and similar terms to fnd tips on good stores to try. there is some good info here on the board.

some shops to try would be...

- fnac.
- pc city.
- media markt.
- corte ingles (usually most expensive but they often have decent sales).

saludos,

hi Jer,
Compared with back in Japan, you're right there seem to be some new bargains around! I just popped over to the nearby electronics store here near Anton Martin and they had a new Epson printer/scanner/photocopier for only 90Euro. The only thing I worry about is how long the ink cartridges will last... but it looks good!

jitkasan,

I've been looking at these multifunction printers. Do a few searches for reviews etc. The best of the bunch as far as I can see is the Lexmark P4350, its got a fax as well. try pixmania for prices.

A good tip is to buy an older, but popular model: I´m a heavy printer-user and whenever I buy a new printer I look to see whether generic cartridges are already available for that model or not, and if they are, how much they cost.
I recommend Epson printers: solid and popular therefore popular with generic cartridge makers: but do check the generic cartridge availability first: Epson has some types of ink which are patented and therefore not possible in generic form.

"but do check the generic cartridge availability first"

that's another thing I was worried about.. don't want to buy a printer that has no cartridges being made for it in a year or so. Or that cost a fortune or are hard to find. Am useless at this sort of thing and don't speak spanish. Anyone willing to help me out, I buy you a beer wink

hey jitkasen.

for the record, i own hp psc 1350 all-in-one units (printer, scanner, color/bw copier) and am very happy with them.

i have 2 becuase i have the same set up at home as i do in my office for obvious reasons: since i use my laptop at home and at the office there is no need to install 2 diff. printer softwares, no need to buy 2 diff. ink cartridges, etc...

the first one cost me like 99 euros about a year ago at pc city in arguelles and the second was even less, it cost me 79 euros at the fnac in callao/sol about 3 months ago.

it is a model that is no longer available but i am not worried about the ink as the newer models use the same exact cartridges as mine.

the kelkoo site is good for referencing, reading about and pricing just about everything. the multi-function printer section is at http://es.kelkoo.com/b/a/c_100052213_impresoras_multifuncion.html , have a look.

if you are leaning towards epson, there are a bunch there as well.

saludos and happy hunting,
jer...
