Last year, I visited some ceramic shops in Madrid (I think near the Rastro, because we were in Madrid only one morning, on Sunday), and saw some chandeliers made of white ceramic with blue and yellow designs. I can't remember if the whole chandelier (base and arms extending to the individual light sockets) was (1) one solid piece of ceramic, or (2) several pieces joined together, for example with metal tubing running through the hollow ceramic pieces.

Have any of you living in Spain seen these types of chandeliers? Our friend in Jerez goes to Madrid once in a while and has said she would go visit some of these shops for us if she knew where they were.

My wife fell in love with these kind of chandeliers, but I can imagine it would be hell to ship if it were one piece of ceramic (1). I'm hoping that maybe next year I could get her one as a gift

Please don't go out of your way, but if you've seen them in a shop and are passing that way again sometime soon, I'd sure appreciate any information you could find out: price ranges, sizes, 1-piece vs. take-apart, etc.

Thanks so much! Smiler

Paul,
I've seen the type of chandelier you are describing in Sevilla where so much of the tile and pottery is made.
Try going to andalusia.com and serachiong links, etc. As I recall, I have seen a site somewhere that had you wife's chandelier.

Thanks for the advice! I looked around and posted a message on the andalusia.com website. Our Jerez friend visits Sevilla a few times a month, and will be on the lookout for us.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Here's an update on the ceramic chandelier search. My friend in Jerez has wanted to help, but wasn't really sure what we were looking for. So, I found a picture of a basic plain white one on the web, then I added pictures of painted Spanish pottery, similar in shape to the ceramic portions of the chandelier.

When I sent the picture to our friend (I tried to post it to my picture site, but the site is not working correctly), I asked her to imagine that the chandelier would be painted with such designs.

She replied that she now has a basic idea of what we are looking for, and will take her digital camera (our old one) with her to show us the variety of what's available. By the time we get to Jerez at the end of March (and at the end of our trip), she should know where to help us find what we want.

I am imagining it all and having trouble getting an image. If you send me the pics I will publish them to my webspace and post them here.

Have not been to the Rastro in a while but will probably go this Sunday so send those pics ASAP if ya want.

Jer,

Clubphoto was not working correctly. If this picture doesn't work this time, I'll email it to you.

It's not too close to what I am seeking (for example, I am hoping to find one with ceramic arms, not metal ones), but I wanted our friend and anyone else to get a basic understanding of what it is. I numbered the parts of the chandelier that are usually made of (or covered with) painted ceramic, in case she was going to show the picture to a vendor.

Please don't make a special trip to the Rastro, but if you are going anyway, I wouldn't mind a picture or two if you see something interesting. Big Grin Thanks!

PD I should soon have some cool pics of 3 moose on my brother's front porch. My parents and older brother/spouse are at my youngest brother's house in Fairbanks AK for Thanksgiving. When I called to wish them a Happy Thanksgiving, there were 3 moose right outside the window.

Hey Paul, I did take a stroll through the Rastro this past Sunday and brought my camera with me (for a change Wink Red Face ).

Unfortunately, the only really big lamp store was closed by the time I got down to it Frowner

I did see some ceramic lamps but they are not nearly what you are looking for, HERE is THE PIC for good measure.

I asked around in a few ceramic shops and they really could not recommend any place to look for what you want.

I think you will have better luck in Jerez but I will still keep my eyes peeled for ya around here.

Saludos,
jer...

p.d. On a side note, HERE is a nice general shot of the Rastro this busy holiday season Smiler
