if you buy a laptop, make sure the battery they give you isn't a dud
Never happened to me (yet) but if you buy a used laptop, see if they can give you a new battery even if you have to pay more for it.
Problem is that batteries do not hold their charge for long after a year or so. You never get the bat. life you are promised when they are new and it just gets worse as they get older.
May want to try the SegundMano newspaper (also online at www.segundamano.es ), they have a HUGE section for second-hand PCs and accessories.
Ok, if you are willing to pay as much as 800, why don't you just go a bit higher and shoot for a new laptop??? You can get basic models with DVD ROM for under 1000.
I agree that adding to your budget to buy a new machine of a reputable brand (providing you can get decent customer service) is worthwhile. If you purchased a used laptop and had to buy a new battery, it would cost about 100 euros anyway.
Jer and I ARE preferential to Dell because we both recently purchased new Dell laptops. Maybe Jer could share his opinion of Dell-Spain's customer service experiences, and maybe someone else could share them for Compaq, etc. (Actually there might be a message thread for this already.)

Will do. Im currently trying to pursuade Mrs Confused that that Dell Ispiron 1100 is a snap at E811 .
She has some ridiculous notion that that we need the money for food and rent! I mean - if god had intended us not to have laptops then he wouldnt have invented Visa.
