Our studio doesn´t have light fixtures, and we were thinking about those cool iron lamps to go over the bulbs. We found some at a small shop just off the Plaza Mayor, but they start at €35 and I was wondering if there was a place we could look not quite so close to the tourist epicenter of Madrid where the prices might be better.
Thanks!

pretty much every shop you find in madrid will charge high prices for those lamps....you could go to morocco and get them much cheaper and have a cool trip at the same time. there is a day trip from tarifa to morocco for 58 euros, it takes you into the medina...and shopping!
other than that, try the rastro on sunday and see if you can find something similar

I´d love to go shopping in Morocco, but Victor did his military service in Melilla - it´ll be hard dragging him back to the African continent, I´m afraid.
Thanks!

i bought morrocan lanterns/lamps in Granada. They are quite cheap there as well. about 30eur for a really big one (80cm high, steel and glass)you can also buy smaller ones for around 5eur.
Look around the cathedral.

There are quite a few stores (not vendors at the market, but actual stores) in the Rastro area that sell Moroccan lamps and tables. I think one of them is on Mira el Río Alta a block or so off c/Toledo. I know there are one or two others right in this same area, but couldn't tell you exactly where they are. A lot of these stores are only open on the weekend. Not sure if the prices are any good, either (sounding less and less helpful here...).
Hilko is right--Granada is chock-full of moroccan stuff and a lot cheaper than Madrid. I'll bet it would be a lot easier to convince your husband to take a trip there. Now would be a great time to go.
