OK, this post is more for the ladies...

I am looking for nice, yet inexpensive dress shop in Madrid! I have been invited to a wedding in April and the invitation specified "white tie" so the dress has to be a gown (full) length. Not that many of you go buying these everyday... but does anyone have any recommendations?

Please don't pop in with "try the Corte Ingls" or any old bridal shop. I am looking for something that isn't going to cost me a fortune since the wedding is in Philadelphia (vamos, busco una ganga!)...

Also, a question for those of you who are up-to-date on your social protocol... I thought white-tie also implied evening wedding/event. This wedding is in the morning. Is it usual, or proper social etiquette to have a white tie affair in the morning?? Confused

hey chica,

i think you will be hard-pressed to find full-length gowns here at cheap prices, even with the rebajas. sometimes hm, zara, and massimo dutti have longer formal dresses, but not often.

the best prices i have ever found on long, formal gowns have been in the states....the sales at nordstroms, filene's, marshall fields, not to mention the hundreds of smaller shops, just can't be beat. i see the folks going mad over 50% rebajas here and always long for the 75% sales on top of previous discounts that you always find in the us.

fellow board member kristin just got married and she wanted something long and elegant but not a wedding gown. she also wanted to keep prices reasonable. after months and months of looking, she finally went to a tailor. for around 150 plus material she got an amazing, one of a kind gown.

cheers and good luck!

holaaaaa you are a godsend... I'll send you an email.

I do have 3-4 long gowns from my fundraising days, but none are appropriate for an April morning wedding! :lo:

Definitely have a look in Zara. They should be getting in the Spring collections soon. Bought a fantastic strappy full length dress in there last year for a June Malaga wedding and all day/night people were asking me where I had bought it (and it only cost 39 euros!!!)
