Does anybody know where one can buy cardboard moving boxes, pleeeaasee?!... :lo:

I'm just so tired of my little hobby of going through trash cans and constuction debris containers around the barrio every single evening for the last month...and never finding the right size!

The supermarket was a good place for me to get some. But, again, if you're worried about the odd-sized box then I'd say scrap that.

You can try retail outlets of places like DHL and Fedex. I was going to ship my stuff Madrid-NY and was told they (DHL) provided moving boxes at like 3 euros a box. What I don't know however, is if they provide you boxes outright without it part of a shipment/order.

I would kinda assume they would give you boxes since they're selling them to you anyway.

I think you can check the DHL retail shops in Madrid off of www.dhl.com. The only 1 I know off the top of my head is on the corner of Maria de Molina and Paseo de la Castellana near the rotunda de Gregorio Maranon.

Hope this helps

Mikey

Last time I moved I bought mine at Mail Boxes Etc. I think their website is mbe.com or mbe.es. They have a few stores around Madrid.

I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.

hey pim.

there is a super embalaje store in the plaza de tirso de molina called "UBM" (union bolsera madrid).

they have everything for packaging and such. may want to have a look since it is very close to your place.

if you are in the plaza facing candela's old apt door, the shop is on your left about 3 stores down towards calle magdalena. all it says is "UBM" above the entrance and they have 2 shops right next to each other, one for small stuff like tape, cutters, etc.. and another for the bigger stuff like rolls of bubbnle wrap, boxes (i think), etc...

suerte.

saludos,
jer...

p.d. i hear ya on that box hunting but i usually have a lot of luck just south of the plaza tirso de molina where all of the "al por mayor" chinese textile shops have sprung up. tons of boxes of all shapes and sizes tossed on the sidewalk. only hard part is finding ones that are not all torn up.

hey pim, check it out since it is close to your apt. but i did not see boxes there since i was not looking for them.

i can't help think they must have them though since they do sell themselves as the total packaging store.

btw, they are closed from 14:00 to 16:30.

saludos,
jer...

Is it economically feasible to move internationally via FedEx and UPS? How costly is it to move, say, a box of books? (my most precious possessions.)

It's astronomically expensive to send books via UPS and FedEx. I sent mine via USPS freight. It took about six weeks to get everything and some customs hassles on one box, but pretty much everything arrived safe and sound for under $50 per box.

Yep! I agree with Megan, I worked for UPS (Spain) for almost 5 years and it is definitely NOT a moving company.

Besides, trust me, shipments sent via UPS can also suffer a lot of hazards going through customs, it's no guarantee.
