Hi everyone!

We are watching a friend's cat for a month or so and I would like to find some catnip for it. I told the Spanish hubby about it and he looked at me like I was nuts and had no idea what I was talking out. So, does anyone know if it's possible to find catnip in Spain and what it's called in Spanish? I couldn't find any tranlations.

Thanks!
Naomi

According to my dictionary it's "nébeda" (feminine)

hey nomi, scooter is right.

yeah sure, avoid your responsability to take care of the cat by keeping it stoned for the month die laughing die laughing die laughing

seriously though, you may want to (if you have not already) ask your friend if he/she minds you giving it catnip since it is more addictive than crack!!! eeker wink

saludos,

Thanks scooter and jer!

LOL at Jer! big grin

Actually this is for a serious purpose. The poor thing has been terrorized for years by another one of their cats and was literally living in their couch. So, she has big psychological problems similar to agoraphobia. She won't move from her safe place, which is on the couch, even if it's to eat. If we move her from one room to the other, she starts screaming bloody murder because she gets all panicky.

So, I was hoping that if she likes catnip, we could coax her into moving around more and have a way to reward her.

Thanks again!
Naomi

I don't know about catnip, I've looked for it here but have not found it. However, there is one thing that they do sell here that's pretty cool, it's called something like "hierba para gatos" and I have usually bought it at the gardening section of any big store like Alcampo or El Corte Inglés. It's pretty cool because they sell you this plastic package that has seeds in some kind of small wood chips and you just take the paper cover off, water it, leave it somewhere with good light and in a few days you have grass growing there. Apparently it's some kind of grass that cats like to eat and it's good for them. All the cats belonging to friends that I have babysat or played with have loved the stuff.
Good luck curing her phobia, poor baby!

Dang, I always miss the email notifications! lol

Thanks for the suggestion lena! We asked all over for nébeda even veternarians and no one had no idea what we were talking about, so no luck there.

I'm going to Alcampo tomorrow, so I will look there for this stuff.

On a good note, the cat is doing much better! We've been giving her a lot of love and although she still has a lot of problems, she does appear to be calming down and is doing normal cat things, like playing, which she wouldn't do before.

I secretly wish we could keep her, hee hee.

I guess the month is almost over, but did you try an herbolario? Vda Patricio Morando on c/duque de alba 15 is good. With the latin name they can probably find it.

was not sure you were still after it or not since your babysitting was about up so i did not buy it.

if you still need it, maybe you can get someone from the u.s.a. or u.k. to send it to ya.
