Trying to find a small voltage converter for my PDA-went to FNAC yesterday and they were of NO HELP WHATSOEVER-even worse than the kind folks at the FNAC in Paris, and I thought THAT was a new low. Any ideas on where I can buy one near Centro? thanks!

schwendy.

as far as i know, pda are world voltage and you need no voltage converter for them. pdas (like laptops, digital cameras, etc...) are made for travelling and i would be VERY surprised if a pda were not rated for 110-240v and 50-60hz.

you should first look at the charger for the pda, it should say "110-240v" on it somewhere (not on the pda itself but ON THE WALL CHARGER).

now, if what you are doing is confusing the voltage converter with a plug adapter, that is another story. a voltage converter will lower the spain output volts to the 110v a non-world-voltage u.s. appliance needs while a plug adapter is simply a little piece of plastic that allows you to plug the 2 slot type u.s.a. plug into the 2 round type spain wall socket.

photo of the "plug adapter thingy"...

for more on this please read the classic "AMERICAN ELECTRONICS IN SPAIN THREAD".

saludos,
jer...

Schwendy--
Whatever you do, don't get roped into buying one of those expensive multifunction plug adapters that they sell at El Corte Ingles.

You can get what you need at any "electricidad" or junk store. It shouldn't cost more than a Euro or so.

Thanks guys! Jer, I will look at it again, but I am fairly sure that it did not say that-so I was assuming that I need a voltage converter. As for the classic American Electronics thread, what can I say, other than that I laughed, I cried, I read it again and again! nah nah

What kind of PDA to you have? I have a Palm Tungston T3. The charger that came with it was only for the US. I bought a travel charger from palm in order to avoid conversion issues. It may cost a bit more but you can use it all over the world, it's less bulky than the original charger and I have had things fry in the past when using a converter.

Good luck.

Noia-that´s the same model I have-FNAC tried to tell me to buy that, but, because the model is a couple of years old, they aren´t easy to come by....I will try the Corte Ingles today to see if I have any luck....

ok, got it-Belkin makes a little USB cable for travel that will synch as well as power up the palm off of the laptop-found it at the Corte Ingles. So one technical issue solved! big grin

Schwendy,

Glad you were able to solve your problem. In my case I was lucky enough to notice the voltage issue before I left the states so I bought the charger directly from Palm's website. Another advantage of the travel charger is that you don't have to use the cradle to charge the PDA for anyone who has this problem in the future.
