Carmen if you are thinking about cigars originating from that island in the Caribe, I believe they would be confiscated.
I don't know if the law is still the same, but supposedly Canadians who are US residents could bring them in for "personal consumption"...do you know any Canadian snowbirds coming south for the winter?
"An honest man is always a child" - Socrates ...no wonder I'm so immature!
I don't think that Canarian cigars are illegal, Paul! If you buy from a legitimate tobacconist you would pay the appropriate duties in purchase and a statement is made upon shipping.
I am not interested in Caribbean or Canadian cigars. :jeje:

Well, surely from all the smokers on the mm board someone must know a legitimate and reliable tobacconist or estanco?
I found several tobacconists in the Internet, but I prefer a personal recommendation because I want to know that I am dealing with a genuine entity, I don't want to be scammed, anyone can put up a website and say they are in Spain, and for all I know it could be elsewhere.
The Canarians that are exported to the U. S, are as a recent article of Cigar Aficionado said,
quote:
Canary Island cigars sold in the United States have been inconsistent in quality and slightly overpriced.
thus my hopes that I can get better quality and price in Spain.
This is for a special Christmas present for a dear friend that is from the Canary islands. Unfortunately I won't be going to Madrid this Winter and can't buy them myself personally.
Appreciate any recommendations from you Madrileos out there!

I do not know if they would ship tobacco to the U.S., but one of the best tobacconist in Madrid is the "Cava de Puros Barquillo", at "Calle Barquillo, 22; 28004 Madrid", phone nr.: +34-915220222.

Carmen, the brother of Juan (owner of ESPARTERA J. SNCHEZ) owns an "Estanco" right next door to the Espartera in the city center.
I asked him and he said most of the normal Estancos will not ship to USA. Not that they can't but they just don't want to be bothered (Spanish customer service).
If they know you and you are a good client, they may ship for you but there are no guarantees.
I think you are best off taking madsue or myself up on our offers to help ya out.
Thanks so much Madsue and Jer, I appreciate your help! Once again, mm'ers come through. Sue and Jer, I didn't want to bother you guys, that's why I was hoping that there was a service available. But I thank you both so much. I will do some research and figure out the brand name and type and e-mail you, there's a science to this! and I'm not a smoker :jeje: . Mil gracias, Carmen  :ks:
