I was doing some window shopping after lunch today and I stumbled upon a new location of mini-supermarket chain called Snchez-Romero. As luck would have it, it's only 5 minutes from where I work. I stocked up on pretzels and Dr. Pepper. Yeah! Big Grin

They have all of the 'main' name products that taste of America has as well as German, French and Italian products. Perhaps more. It's still expensive but looks to be 'a little' cheaper then TOA. (e.g. pancake syrup for 5,68 instead of 10,00 for the same size bottle)

They advertise a 'home delivery' service. Who knows how much extra that will cost though. Here is a list of their different locations for anyone interested in checking them out:

Centro Comercial Arturo Soria Plaza
Arturo Sorio, 126
(91) 388 00 34

Castellana
Castellana, 196
(91) 359 00 09

Centro Comercial Mirasierra
Nuria, 59
(91) 734 42 65

Sor ngela de la Cruz
Sor ngela de la Cruz, 10
(91) 555 70 96

Corazn de Mara
Corazn de Mara, 52
(91) 413 77 63

Centro Comercial Moraleja Green
Avenida de Europa, 13-15
(91) 661 65 00

Puerta de Hierro
Cantalejo, 9
(91) 376 84 50

Centro Comercial Milenium (Majadahonda)
C/del Azafrn, Local 1
(91) 679 50 93

If you think that one of those places is near you, but you're not exactly sure where it is, enter the address using the lanetro.com street map. Cliek on the following link to access it: http://callejero.lanetro.com/apps/lanetro/index.asp?cod_prov=28

Hi there!,

Tony, don't be mistaken, I used to work for Taste....and they import the goods from the US, and THEN, Sanchez-Romero buys a few of them from Taste....(I prepared lots of orders for them!), logically (and I've checked this many times), in S.-R. these merchandise is even a little bit more expensive.

Maybe the product you're referring to is not really from the US, like some stuff you can find at El Corte Ingls for instance, (British or Spanish flours, syrups, etc....)But the real American stuff that S.-R. sells SHOULD be labelled with a Taste of America's ingredients label, etc....

BTW, in a survey (from last year or the year before, I can't remember) that supermarket chain was found to be the most expensive one in the country!

Thanks for the info Pim... I was kind of in a hurry and didn't notice that. Your advice is well heeded.

I guess what I like about it is that they have a bunch of locations around town and, though they're similar to Hipercor, they seem to cater to some of the types of things that I like but can't get anywhere else.

One of these days it would be interesting if someone went to both places the same day and make a price comparison. I do recall a box of 'fruit roll-ups' costing 7 wheras I don't recall exactly how much they cost at TOA.

In any event, I imagine both possibilities would be cheaper than buying a ticket to NYC... Wink
