hey dudette ahhhhh, this all brings back memories of when i was a tyke and my dad used to build wooden frames for the window frames in winter and cover them with plastic = super dooper insultation!!! ok, the plastic sheets they sell at the chinese stores (used to be the "todo a 100" stores), are usually thicker than syran wrap and plastic grocery bags but thinner than what you may want. they are usually meant as drop-cloths for painting. painting supply stores would also have such drop-cloths and you may be able to find a thicker (and more expensive) variety than at the chinese shops. i do not know if transparency is very important to you but you may also want to consider bubble wrap as it would insulate a lot more as plastic with air in the middle would be better than plastic alone. see the thread you started HERE as the same shops have bubble wrap and may have large plastic sheets as well. packaging stores may also have what you need. see the thread HERE. and i also like ALbert's suggestion of leroy merlin (but ikea would not have what you need). you may want to ask for a "lona grande de plastico transparente". saludos, jer...

What about looking in material shops? We bought some plastic coated material as a kitchen tablecloth, which is thick enough to hang properly, and also some same thickness but transparent for a shower curtain. Bought a DIY riveting set in the haberdashers department and bobs your uncle!!!! These materials come in 2 metre width too.

What exactly does that mean? Sounds cool anyway, I need to start working it into more conversations. Ok, back to the topic, the shops specializing in plastic materials are in my neighborhood. The easiest way to find them is to go to the metro Quevedo and walk down the Fuencarral. At this point the Fuencarral only goes in one direction so no worries about going the wrong way, if you go in any other direction you won't be on the Fuencarral any longer. Turn left on the c/ Jordan and there are two options right across the street from each other one block up at the intersection of Jordan and Cisneros. If I'm wrong turn right on Cisneros and it will be on the next block. However if you get lost and end up in the Plaza Olvide, go into one of the bars, order a coffee or a drink and enjoy one of the areas that in my opinion is one of the best kept secrets of Madrid. If it was any closer into the center I think it would be swarmed with tourists every spring and summer. As it is now, it's my neighborhood retreat. There are two plastic stores and both should have what you need, however I'm always drawn to the one with the plastic space helmet looking things in the window. They actually have rubbermade products there, but when I compared the price with the local chino I couldn't justify the extra expense. Good luck, Bonnie

maybe bob is mariposita's uncle and he is in the mafia and since mafia guys would know where to get large plastic sheets, then there you have it ok, i remember those plastic shops (at leas one) near plaza de olavide. Bonnie, i so agree with you about that plaza and surroundings. that used to be my stompin grounds when i was a student here as olavide was halfway between my school and my ex-gals house so it was class --> lunch --> nookie in linear progression . we used to have the "menu" for lunch at a little restaurant on one of those streets off the plaza, i can't recall the name of the street or the restaurant but think the street was santa feliciana or raimundo lulio. gotta go back and find it one day vadingo, there is a MAP OF THE AREA HERE so you can see calle jordan and the others that scooter and Bonnie are talking about when they mention the plastic shops. saludos, jer...
