Hey all, I got this e-mail the other day and while I usually do not give publicity to this stuff, I thought this one was different and could be of use to those of you here in Spain looking for books in English.
quote:
Hey Jeremy,
Nice, I like your site. Will come back and visit again sometime. Just out cruising the english madrid scene becuase I have a ton of English books that I need to unload. So, if you need any heavy reading (because none of it is light), then please check out my temporary bookstore on my website.
Look forward to checking your site again in the future.
Chad. Now, to the junk mail part of it...
Hello,
I thought that perhaps you might be interested in this one time email for English speakers in Spain. I've been playing around with my website and the bookstore of my old university here in Madrid. So, for a temporary time, I have created a website with alot of books for sale. I hope that you will review this website to see if there may be some books that you might enjoy having in your library. The majority of these books are education related and are left over books no longer used for university classes. (Topics include: International Business, Marketing, Hotel Management, Finance and Accounting, Economics, Spanish Language, English Language, International Relations, Computers, Philosophy and Psychology, Mathematics, Fiction Books and a Miscellaneous category)
I ask that you please forward this email or website address to anyone you know that speaks English so that they also may enjoy building their library with these books.
Thought I would just add to this thread by letting everyone know (that's here in Madrid) that on 1st March the American Women's Club of Madrid will be holding a 2 day booksale on 1st & 3rd March. It is at the clubhouse which is Plaza de la Republica del Ecuador, 6 (metro Columbia) and will be open from 12 - 5 on the Saturday (11-2 on the Monday).
Jer - hope you don't mind me posting what is effectively an 'ad' for the club but it seemed to me that this sale is little known about, along with the monthly bring and buy that the club runs where you can sell goods or pick up good bargains from departing expats). Louise
Thanks Louise. Hope Jer doesn't ditch your so-called ad. I for one am thrilled to hear of the sale and will be there. I only brought five books with me because, well, my ten pairs of shoes took up too much room. Anyway, I need to replenish my stock! (i mean books, not shoes!)
Candela PS Do they sell other things too? I need house stuff.

Nah, jer would never ditch a post that was useful and helpful to ex-pats (or locals) here.
That is what the board is all about, even if it borders on an ad, I think the American Women's Club of Madrid booksale would be helpful to anyone looking for English language books.
Thanks for letting us know Louise
Geeeze Louise, what else do they sell? Is there more that they sell? Please, please do tell!!! (sounds like a Dr. Seuss rhyme )
Okay - the full plug for what the American Women's Club offers for sale:
Bring & Buy Sales - the second Monday of every month. Literally seen everything and everything for sale from junk you wonder how anyone could have the nerve to sell to a Hi Fi unit going seriously dirt cheap! There are also books available - quantity depends entirely on donations received.
Next Bring & Buy Sale = 2 days : Sat 8th Feb 11am to 5pm & Mon 10th Feb 11am to 2pm.
Book Sale - buy everything from cheap, trashy fiction to serious hard back reference books. Most books are in English but there are usually spanish, french and german books as well.
Finally, we also run a classified section in the monthly newsletter for the sale of larger items that the departing need to get rid of. Anyone on the lookout for such things as TVs, sofas, tables etc just let me know and I will see if there are any ads as prices are usually pretty good and for top of the line items.
BTW the AWC is a charity so money raised goes towards places like children's homes, homeless shelters and battered women's shelters.
End of November there is a big Christmas Bazaar with HUGE book stand as well as other things to buy, eat, drink, play - not to be missed! (unless of course you don't happen to live in Madrid and can easily buy all the goodies without even thinking about it )
I will try and keep the board informed of each sale so anyone here in Madrid can stock up on books and more accumulated 'stuff'!
Hi Louise Im glad I spotted your ad. Ill definately check out your sale. Your mentioned that you might be able to find out about furniture, tvs etc. for sale. If there is anything Id be eternally grateful for the assistance. Moving house tomorrow and have almost zero furniture. Ta. Take care, Marie
