Hi everyone and Jeremy,
Im kind of stumped again, this time looking for a video store that rents tapes in original version. With or w/o subtitles in Spanish.
If anyone could point me someplace (somewhat affordable), Id be really, really grateful. I cant stand that dubbed-over garbage anymore, its almost as bad as in Germany... ;-)
Hasta luego,
the Duke

I hear ya loud and clear buddy! When I go to the movies it is always to the "Versin Original" theatres, I can't stand the hollywood actors voices dubbed into Spanish Eeker

It would not be as bad if they were not all the same dubbers for the movies and TV. I think there are maybe 5 dubbers that do every voice, at least it seems that way!

I hate it when I see a dubbed flick with say Robert Deniro dubbed and then I am watching TV one night and I hear the same voice on a denture commercial or something, and then on 10 different commercials that same night Razzer

You know the films also lose a lot in the dubbing. For example, Dirty Harry's (Clint Eastwood) catch phrase of "Make my day" is dubbed to "Algrame el da" ("Cheer up my day"), need I say more Confused There are loads more examples of this.

Well, back to the rentals. Ever since I got my PC with a DVD player and video out graphics card to watch DVDs on my TV I have been in heaven. As you know you can put the DVD in many different languages and turn subtitles on and off.

As for video tapes, I know blockbuster has a small section of VO tapes but it is rather limited.

There is a VO only rental shop called English Editions, it was up for sale a few months back so I do not know what the story is but here is the last info I had on it:

English Editions
Pz. de San Amaro, 5
28039 Madrid
Telf: 91 571 03 21
Metro: Alvarado(line #1)

May want to check it out. If you do come back and let us know how it is.

Saludos,
jer...

Hey jazzbo, yeah, we put the subtitles on in Spanish since my girlfriend is pretty good with understanding English but not perfect and at times needs the help. I also like to read them to see how badly the films are translated and how much "meaning" they lose and trust me, they lose a lot!

OK, the subtitles on/off option is actually built into the DVDs and has nothing to do with the DVD player itself (I am pretty sure). When the movie is on screen and has started, all I do is right mouse click on it andget the long menu, hide and show subtitles is one of the options.

The options may also be affected by the DVD playing software you use. I use one called POWER DVD.

But since you asked, the DVD in my laptop is a "MATSHITA DVD-ROM SR-8176" and the one in my Desktop is a SAMSUNG (Model to be confirmed).
