Yeah, that's what I've always figured. That's why I leave stuff out on Saturdays and Sundays, just to make their "job" easier... But I'm still wondering who took Oscar's old potty. It was a cool lime green motorcycle potty, but still...

Hi,

If you haven't found a place to take your stuff yet, you can also drop off clothing at the Humana shop on Calle Rios Rosas. Its near the metro stop (blue number 1 line) on the Calle Rios Rosas itself. Its a pretty good shop. I bought a "like new" brand name jacket for Sam there that he loves (age 10). The Humana shops are great as all profits go back into charity projects. They take only clothing, shoes, purses, accessories (I also bought Carlos 2 "new" silk ties for 3 euros each!!

I, personally, think its unacceptable to just leave bags on the street. In my neighborhood, the bags get torn open and the clothing spread all over the street, until the street cleaners finally get around to throwing away the dirty and now unusable remaining stuff.

It's nice to know that there are places to take used clothes. I've got a bunch of stuff that I'm hesitant to dump in a bin (heard they got made into rags) but wasn't sure where to take it. Once the summer comes and I'm an unemployed bum (aka teacher big grin) I'll make a trip in and donate it all. Who knows I might find a jacket to replace my rapidly wearing out summer jacket

Val,

You beat me to the punch. I was going to write about Humana because I lived 3 blocks away from the store. I donated many clothes to them before I moved back to the US and it was great knowing that I could give them to a good cause rather than just toss them. And I can only imagine what a neighborhood must look like after having clothes strewn all over the place.

Have a good one,

Shawn

I hate to be the one to tell you this but the reason no one knows of stores like this is cause Madrid doesn't have anything like them. The closest thing you might find is an Alcampo or Carrefore which sells clothing but its more like a super walmart. One of the hardest things I had adjusting to in the first few months is that Europe is nothing like America. They think differently, they eat differently, the drink differently, they vote differently, and they shop differently. Its natural to make constant comparisons and to try to find things that are familiar but its futile man. You may have to save your Tjmaxx trips for when your back in the States.

Enjoy your stay,
Bonnie

hey alverjita.

bonnie is right for the most part, there are no stores quite like marshalls et al in spain.

i am in ny right now for the holidays and have been to target a few times, so much to buy and everything is so damn cheap.

i grew up with marshalls as my mom always brought us to get clothes but nothing like it in spain i'm afraid.

you will have to either shop for your clothes when back in usa like bonnie suggested or gt used to paying a LOT more for them in spain.

saludos,
jer...

p.d. there ar actually a few small second hand clothing stores in madrid. do a search on these forums and you will find the threads about them.

This might be (IS) off the topic, but has anyone met 'Rob in Madrid' yet? I reckon he doesn' exist......

Rob, I think you are the phantom, the ghost who walks, the man who can never die...

Then again, I'm drunk and what would I know anyway.

Cheers,
Steve
