hi Jo-Anne , if my memory is correct, I did visit the shop in plaza mayor, it was July and was open. If I remember well, they sold souvenirs, teeshirts caps, fans plates ceramics etc. the prices were really good too. enjoy your trip

Thanks chiara felice This shop has been recommended by a dancer in Madrid as somewhere we can buy a dancing dress for our daughter's 6th Birthday whilst we are in Madrid. Do you think this is the same place? Jo

Hi Jo-Anne, jer here. Tis indeed the same shop, I am sure of it since I pass it daily when I cut through the Plaza on my way to Sol. The shop is quaint and very old, it is a dark green color outside and the word "Maravillas" is in a faded (almost unreadable) gold lettering. It is right in front of "El Gato Negro" (the fabric shop on the corner of the Plaza and the "Calle de la Sal". The "Calle de la Sal" is the the upper half of the "Calle de Postas" which is the one that runs from McDonalds on "la Puerta del Sol" up into the Plaza. There are always many dresses and traditional siuts of Madrid in the window so I am sure it is the store you want. baila, baila! jer...

Now you will be able to recognize it when you see it ! Enjoy the window shopping until you arive! Saludos, jer...

Hi Jer Thanks for that! Yes, it certainly looks like it must be the right place! Now I just need you to go in and ask how much a flamenco dress and/or skirt would be for a 6/7 year old - OK? I expect your reply by tea time tomorrow. Jo-Anne

Hi, Jo-anne, I saw a few costumes in El Cortes Ingles but not a great choice. I also noticed a shop called Maestro Victoria on one of the side streets off the Plaza del Sol they had a good selection of traditioal costumes.
I love spain

Hi Jo-Anne, well, nothing like taking all the fun out of shopping! Maybe I should just buy it for you and charge you a finders fee commission ; I think I will leave the price getting and bargain hunting up to you, jejeje. Thanks for the note Mad-Sue, the Corte Ingls has EVERYTHING but is usually a last resort for it is very expensive but then again, you gringos are buying with the allmighty American $$$$ (just hit 198 pesetas to the dollar), what more enticement do you all need to come to Spain already! Saludos, jer...
