Hi! I know the airport very well, feels like I've spend half of my life there. There's no Mc Donald's, but they have great sandwiches, the last minute gift shopping at the airport, hmmmm, I've seen better gift shops, but if you don't mind paying almost 30% more than in the city you can find some great stuff, especially in the taxfree shop, which is not taxfree for me anymore I still think you should try to find your gifts in the city instead, the price is much higher inside the airport, and that goes for food aswell. But, I must admit, I'm doing the same thing as you. If I for any strange reason have some money left I just have to shop at the airport, especially make up and parfume, as always

I have never been one to do airport shopping since it is $%ing expensive!!! The most I ever bought at an airport was a bag-o-m&m candies Heck, lin_san is right but I would venture to say that things at the airports are about 50% more expensive than in the cities There is no McDonalds at the Madrid airport, THANK GOD!!! I can't believe you just asked about McDonalds in Spain Watch it, I have thrown people off this board for less On the taxfree subject, most of the shops in Madrid also offer tax free shopping for tourists so no need to do shopping at the airport as lin_san has mentioned. lin_san, I hear ya on that taxfree "chollo" being over, mine ended 7 years ago Saludos, jer...

Careful, Smiley! REAL Madrid nuts don't eat American fast food in Europe. It's the law! :b: Actually, McDonalds serves a very important purpose in Europe: free, (usually) clean bathrooms! I have NEVER eaten in McDonalds/Burger King etc., overseas because I hate to see it squash local eating establishments. I am proud of many components of American culture (entrepreneurial sprit and innovation, etc.), but fast food is NOT one of them. Some of my Spanish friends complain about the invasion of American fast food. I tell them: "Then stop eating there! If the only people who ate at American fast food joints were American tourists, they would go out of business!"

I totlaly agree with Paul but must admit that we (ena and I) do McDonbalds here once in a while . She is Madrilea and is as addictd to the stuff as I am to PATATAS BRAVAS!You will be here for a short period of time, venture out of the American fast food routine and try EVERY type of Spanish cuisine you can! It may be hard to refrain when all of your friends are chomping down on Big Macs but TRUST ME, McDonalds WILL still be in the U.S.A. when you get home If they go into McDonalds, and you feel the need for fast food, go next door or down the street and get a BOCADILLO DE CALAMARES!! Pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaasssssseee! Saludos, jer...

I was in Spain over Thanksgiving, so I decided that since I couldn't have a regular turkey dinner I would go to McDonald'a. I figured I was going to have American food at least. I thought that was a pretty good excuse. Jer, you live so close to a McDonald's though that I've got to imagine that the french fries can be pretty enticing sometimes!!!!

Smiley, we're just teasing ya. I think it's great that you get to discover Spain when you are so young (I was 29 when I went for the first time). But if you can, resist the urge for a Big Mac and go for that Bocalillo de Calamares. Mickey Dee's will still be there when you return From left: Irene, "Zorra" the cat, "Traviesa" the Rat Dog, and Mercedes (from Jerez) enjoying the next "cosecha" of tomatoes from the garden. Making gazpacho? Si....making ketchup? No.
