hey vadingo99.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, not sure if that is packaging material but if it is, you should try the store i recommend on the thread HERE.

there is also a shop that sells stuff like that on calle imperial number 6 (?). it is on your right hand side as you walk down the street from plaza de la provincia, see MAP HERE.

saludos,

I was looking for the same thing, but ended up using a sleeping bag for the extra padding instead.
None of the matress or bedding stores had it that I went to.
They all said that it might be something orthopedic or hospital bed supply related.
You might want to try that route instead of packing places.
There are also some places that cut up different types of foam for couches, pillows, etc. that deal in bulk. They might offer something compatible as well.

We bought a piece of foam for the top of our (crappy) mattress at the spot that Jer mentions on Calle Imperial. It's one of those multipurpose upolstry/awning fabric/rope/fiber stores. For a double bed, I think it cost about 20 Euros for a 2 1/2 inch thick piece. A thinner piece might have been better.

Hey Jer I went to that store but I can´t find it even with the map. Did it have a big window with fabric rolls in the window because #6 there is nothing there.

Oh. I got very excited about this search result and went to the store on Calle Imperial 6 today. For a 150cm by 180cm bed of foam, the lady wanted 87 Euro and it will take 3 days. I really want a softer mattress cover but thought it would be around 20 Euro as Mariposita said. Even though that was 2 years ago. Went to two different Orthopedic stores and they did not have the traditional egg crates either.

Other than shelling out for a new mattress at Corte Ingles or Ikea, anyone else have an updated suggestion about where to get an egg crate type cover mattress for a mattress from the stone age?

Thanks,

Gary

hey Pactzin.

i was at one of those stores the other day too and asked about a slice-o-foam 150x200cm in size and i got a price quote of 40 euros eeker and that was for the thinnest one they have.

so, your quote of 87 for a smaller one either means you were at another shop or the foam you asked about was lot thicker than the one i looked at.

i have yet to find the egg foam as well.

That does sound really expensive! I wonder what the thickness was. We tossed ours out when we got a new mattress.

There's another store that I think sells stuff like that on one of the streets that goes down the hill from Plaza General Vara del Rey toward Puerta de Toledo. It's either Carlos Arniches or Mira el Río Baja and it's on the west/right size as you are going downhill. I know it is open during the rastro on Sundays--not sure about their normal hours. Might be worth checking out, though I can't say for sure that they have it in the width that you are looking for.

But maybe you should just spring for the new mattress... I wish we had sooner. If it's one of those really cheap ones with springs that jab you, it's going to kill your back.

Thanks Jer & Mariposita,

I think we did point to double thickness only because the one seemed not thick enough. I think we are going to go ahead and try for a new mattress. That may mean a trip to Ikea for the first time. If we are close to Metro Opera & Metro Sol, should we go to Ikea Alcorcon or Ikea Este? Also is Flex and Latex the same? Do you think Ikea is less expensive than El Corte Ingles?

Thanks,

Gary

I think it's worth it. Those cheapo ones just suck and the foam doesn't really solve the problem.

I think the new Ikea Este will be a lot quicker and less hassle than Alcorcón, though I haven't been yet (there's a thread on it somewhere here). There are also lots of neighborhood type stores that sell mattresses. I was so afraid of springs after the evil mattress that we ended up buying a futon at the place on Echegaray (futonia?). Somewhere on the board there is a huge thread about mattresses (seriously mm-ers have been through practically everything). El Corte Inglés might not be bad if it is having a sale, otherwise, they tend to be the most expensive.

I believe Flex is a brand of mattress (also sold in ECI), while latex is the material of which a mattress can be made from.
I bought a latex mattress by Flex in my local neighborhood store (during rebajas) but I still haven´t used it. I will have it delivered after I move to a new place.
