Hi, Lizzie! The weather in Madrid is crazy, so you could find cold winters or mild winters. Rarely it snows, but the wind can be very cold. You must know one more thing : sometimes you can find months like February specially hot and months like May specially cold, like winter, when the normal way its a mild weather, because its Spring.
When youll arrive in September, shops are selling clothes from Autumn, maybe they have things for winter, but the new clothes will be expensive. we have some stores that sells outlet clothes. I know 2 in the city and out of the city theres a mall called Factory (I think that theres a free bus, but i dont know where you can get it). Inside Factory you could find shoes (outlet shoes from Camper, a really good and expensive Spanish shoe maker), clothes (Mango and other companies), sport clothes (nike), and underwear (Etam). In the city, in Gran Via street next to the new Zaras building, theres another Zaras building that sells outlet clothes, and its called Lefties. But be careful here, sometimes the clothes its dirty or broken. The last one i know its called M2 and its in Fuencarral street. Its just inside MAngo, on the second floor. If you can wait a little, look in H&M: sometimes they have nice clothes and its not really expensive. Have a nice stay and shopping day.

Thank you so much, Ena, for such helpful information Am so excited! I will definitely visit Factory at Getafe since my school (Carlos III) is in the neighborhood. am also really curious about M2 and Lefties -although I hope the clothes don't look like lefties I'd really love to visit H&M as well since we don't have that here in Asia yet. thanks again. thanks also Jer! this site's the best!
I think you're talking about that outlet village in Las Rozas (Madrid suburb)....I think it's called something imaginative like 'Las Rozas Village.'(Please correct me though if I'm wrong on that guys...)
I do know that it's right next to the 'Heron City Outdoor Shopping Center' right across the highway from the 'Factory' outlet shops that ena mentioned previously. Their marketing kick (Las Rozas Villages) is that they're open all week, even on Sundays. In other words...it's a shopper's dream!
What I love about that area is that it reminds me a ton an American style shopping area with all it's outlet shops, AMC movie theaters and even a TGIFridays if you'll believe that!
As I said: Factory, Heron City and Las Rozas Village is all in that same area. If you want to find out how to get there, check out: www.heroncitymadrid.com . They offer a version of the Madrid page in either Spanish and English and there's a 'Find Us' link that will give you directions.

Hey lin_san, ena is at work right now bringin home da bacon so I will confirm that tonytorero is on the money. "Las Rozas Village" is indeed a little shopping village un to itself outside of Madrid. It is open Mon.-Fri, Sundays and holidays from 11am to 9pm and Saturdays from 11am to 10pm.
The official address is... Las ROzas Village Juan Ramn Jimnez, #3 28230 Las Rozas, Madrid
...and the phone # for general info is (+34) 91 640 4908
Takes about 30 minutes to get there from the center of Madrid and they boast that you can save up to 60%.
The closest thing they seem to have to an official websit eis at www.umav.net/adheridos/las_rozas_village.htm but is only in Spanish so below I have included a translation of the directions they give to get there.
quote:
By Car:
Take highway A6, to exit 19. Then continue straight at the first roudabout and stay on the service road for 2KM. Follow the signs for Las Rozas Village from there.
By Bus:
There is a regular bus service (I assume every half hour or so) that leave for Las Rozas Village from the Moncloa Bus Station (AKA "el Intercambiador de Moncloa).
El Intercambiador de Moncloa is the enclosed vestibule (for lack of a better word) where the Metro (lines #3 and 6) and busses meet. The busses are on sub level 1 and the Metro on sub level 2.
ohhhh, que bien! thank you tony and jer. And tony, we have heron city with AMC movie theatres right here in Stockholm too so I understand what you mean, I will probabaly feel like I'm back home in Sweden shopping, had no idea that Madrid had one too, I will probably be shopping like crazy when I get there. But jer thank you for the direction, seems easy to get there, just ask someone at moncloa buss station, so it will be the same bus for the whole Outlet village area then? So maybe it's best if a ask for the bus to heron city?

Ive never taken the Moncloa bus, but I know that there is a bus that goes from Legazpi right to parking lot of the Tiendas Factory in Getafe. If i remeber correctly it leave every hour on the hour. Its not the normal Madrid city buses that you see around (red and blue, but instead kind of a lime green color and really big. There are several like this that leave from this same place, but the right one will have a big GETAFE_TIENDAS FACTORY sign in the front. Also, on the shopping topic, there is a big American style Mall, that has every store mention so far and more, as well as a food court, a movie theater, etc etc...at the Barrio de Pilar Metro. And, does no one but me appreciate the albeit low quality, but nonetheless super unique and fun clothes from Pimkie??? Anyways, Happy shopping

Yep, it is called "La Vaguada" and is one of the more accesible Malls via public transportation here in Madrid. They even have a pretty new website at www.lavaguada.com

Jejejeje, when ya get back here you have to meet ena (my girlfriend) she is also a big Zara fan and has been spotted often in Pimkie too
originally posted by joquecalor: [qb] differences are that clothes tend to have a more tailored look, emphasis on flowing color combinations, clean lines, accessories are big. trends/styles come from europe (nyc is the exception) so spain is at the front of what is hot now..check these spanish fashion clothing, shoes, jewelery sites out..i love to shop in spain..its less expensive, high quality and you know what you are buying won't hit the streets in the us for at least a season..or two..and in the case of camper shoes..years!! have fun you fellow shopper you!!!!
"Camper" has men's depts. in all of their stores. "Zara" has men's depts. (not sure which store locations offer them though). "Cortefiel" has a men's dept. at their store on Gran Va and probably a few others, just not at the one on Calle Preciados). "Lefties" on calle "Carretas" has a large men's dept. downstairs as does Pull & Bear across the street (I think). "H&M" has a men's dept. at their Goya store.
Also, there is a popular store chain here called "Springfield" for casual men's clothing. I think there is one on Gran Va between Plaza del Callao and Plaza de Espaa.
I am sure there are a lot more options for the guys as well and will add them here as I find more.
They may not have much online, but there is plenty in the store. Just like in the States, there is probably a little more variety and accessories in women's clothing than in men's, so it's not surprising to me that the online catalog contains fewer men's items. Guys can get away with a few nice pairs of slacks, a couple pairs of well cut jeans (not baggy), some sweaters, and shirts (regular and button down).
Something that has not been mentioned here is Lottusse. Their shoes are generally more conservative and dressy. I use them for work or going out back here. They make really nice bags, wallets, and planners too. Again, this is more business oriented stuff, but it is definitely worth a look.
I'm guessing you're college aged and not too far from hitting the work force. If so, getting some of work shoes and bags at Lottusse may be something to check out. I have 3 pairs of shoes and a nice leather briefcase, wallet, and planner, all purchased within an hour. My most expensive shopping trip to date. But, the shoes are as good as new after two Chicago winters and to get similar quality back home would have cost me twice as much.
If anyone knows of a way to get Lottusse on the net shipped back to the States, please, please, please, let me know. I've been looking for a month now.

There is also a Springfield on Calle Goya and a Cortefiel on Calle Alberto Aguilera en Arguelles. I love clothes shopping in Spain, but before I can buy anything, I need to loose some of this belly. Working on that.
I do love clothing in Spain better than in the U.S. and the shoes are da bom'. Can't wait to go shopping again.

I need help from one of you serious shoppers out there!!!!! Has anyone come across clothes by the designer Renato Nucci on their travels around the Madrid shops? I will be having a good old "root" around the more affordable places of course, but I need an outfit for my daughters wedding and his(?) designs are lovely - just cant seem to find any stockists!

Well, I didnt have too much luck last time I posted on this thread. So, another designer I have come across is Franc Sarabia. Apparently from Sevilla. Has anyone come across any of his designs in Madrid. I really need to find the perfect outfit for my daughters wedding in September so any suggestions very gratefully received!!!!
