Hi there,
Does anyone know of a good stationary shop in Madrid. I love to buy pens and inks and give these as gifts to my artistic friends. Or would El Corte Ingles be the place to go. It looks like I will be living there Roll Eyes Big Grin Roll Eyes

Hi Booklady, boy do you cover ALL aspects of your trip.

I am a huge pen nut and after watches, they are my favorite toys. I think I got it from my mom, she loves all types of pens Big Grin

Anyway, stationary stores are everywhere here and yes, CORTE INGLS is an option but is more expensive for almost everything (about 30% on average) than most other smaller shops.

I walk past this shop (CLICK HERE FOR THE PATENTED JER PIC Big Grin ) called "Sacristn" on Calle Mayor # 27 a few times a day since it is on my way home. It is painful because they have some great stuff (mostly writing utensils). I am sure you will ove it, it is on the left hand side of the street just off the Puerta del Sol on your way down Calle Mayor.

Saludos,
jer...

Hola Jeremy,
As Gomer Pyle says, Shazam! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love pens, I covet pens, I've been known to travel great distances to buy pens! I don't know why I started my collection, I guess it's because they are so useful and it's such a joy to write with a well rounded nib, a truly harmless hobby, and less expensive than collecting coins. Which by the way, it would be a good idea to buy the last set of mint peseta coins, since next year they will be no more.

Wink

Well, well.. so I am not the only pen and paper nut around.
There is also a wonderful stationery store on Claudio Coello called Papelmania. I am not sure about the exact address but it must be in the odd-number 60's as I know it is a little above the Electric Co. which is at 55.
There is also a nice recycle shop on the Calle Palma if you are into great paper.

Life is short so drink your vintage wine and use your best silverware.<br /> Buy your vintage wine here - Great restaurant in Madrid.

Funny how you never know you are not alone until someone admits their addiction.

"Hi, my name is Jeremy and I'm... I'm a penoholic" Big Grin

Reminds me of one time I was on a bus from NY to Summit County Colorado (a very long trip, I DO NOT recommend it) and I showed this girl my tattoo (yes, I am chock-fullo surprises Big Grin ) and she showed me hers (no, no place sexy or anything like that Frowner ) and from there a girl next to us saw us and exposed her tattoo. It was like a mad chain reaction, one passenger after the other whipping off clothes and showwing off their tattoos Smiler

Moral: "You are not as alone as you might think"

Saludos,
jer...

p.d. By the way, all of the variations on "papelmania" web addresses are still available for registration (www.netsol.com/en_US/name-it/searchresults.jhtml?_requestid=4475310)

Sacristn is a very old and famous place, specialized in fountain pens. So is the perfect place if you want to shop really good and expensive articles.
You can take a look to their web page: http://www.sacristan.com/
There is also a very nice stationery (and cheeper) called "Romero Papeleras" in ABC Serrano Commercial Center, in Castellana, 34. You will also find a good selection in El Corte Ingls

Hey Madridlea, thanks for the web address on Sacristn. Very cool website and you can even buy online.

Yeah, some really nice stuff in the shop, I usually just drool over the pens Big Grin

Hey, is that "Papeleras Romero Hermanos" you are talking about, I think it is the same one I am thinking of. If it is they have 4 or 5 stores, they also have one in the Plaza de Santo Domingo on one of the corners. They always have neat gifts and trinkets in the windows.

Can you confirm that it is the same set of stores that you are thinking of?

Yes, i think is the same one. They have various stores in Madrid, some of them on commercial centers (Arturo Soria, El Jardin de Serrano, La Moraleja, etc.).

Booklady, after another web resarch I found a web page of Romero Hermanos. It's not very good, but you have on it the exact address of their shops. http://www.cestein.es/romero/cgi-bin/home.cgi

Hey Madrilea, I am going to have to start paying you for your research Wink

Great job on that URl for Romero. Now I am sure we are talking of the same place, that first store photo on "Silva, 2" is the one on the corner of the Plaza de Santo Domingo I mentioned in my post above.

Saludos,
jer...

p.d. you are right, their website leaves a lot to be desired.
