There are interesting and inexpensive food shops at C/Amparo 86 and 88 (next door), metro Embajadores. That at 86 is called Alzahra and that at 88 is called Foodland.

In Alzahra there are things like peanut butter (1 kg tub for 5 euros), tahini, and also hummus-tahini (chick pea and sesame paste) in 425g tins for 1,20 euros. To make hummus from this last you need to add lemon juice and garlic.

Foodland was closed the day I went (Dec 31), but Im told its also very good. Stephen
