hey auo3, welcome to the board. ouch! sorry to hear that. electronics in spain are much more expensive than in the u.s.a. so expect to pay about 30-50% more. there are TONS of stores in barcelona that she can go to to look at new digi cams. her study abroad advisor should be able to send her to a few places however, the advisors usually take the easy way out and would send her to el corte ingles which is about as expensive as it gets. i would advise she go to a place like mediamarkt and look around. there are a few stores in barcelona, the most central one being the one in the diagonal mar shopping center, see http://www.mediamarkt.es/empresa/comollegar/bcn/diagonalmar/ for map. saludos, jer...

does not sound strange at all but your asking would lead one to think that you may believe that she has a chance of finding and buying her camera back if she can go into her local pawn shop (hoping the thief sold it there). i am afraid that is a loooong shot (if it is what you were thinking). pawn shops in spain are called "casa de empeño" or "tiendas de empeño" but they are not as popular as they are in the u.s.a. more popular are shops like "second market", see www.secondmarket.es . saludos, jer...

hey auo3. in that case, try... - www.cashconverters.es ( click on "nuestras tiendas" at page bottom and then click on cataluña. you will see a list of stores in barcelona). i looked at www.secondmarket.es ( the where we are page is at www.secondmarket.es/donde.asp ) but it looks like they only have stores in madrid and valencia. please pop back in and let us know aht she ends up doing. saludos, jer...

yikers! hope you wrote "used dirty clothes" or "gift" on the package. if you wrote "digital camera" or any kind of electronics on it it could get snagged at customs in spain and become your WORST nightmare (time and cost wise). hope it gets through with no problems. saludos, jer...
