Roland and I have just found an affordable and yummy place for sushi, and it has one of those conveyor belts. It´s called Kintaro, and it´s on c/Fernandez de la Hoz, 70. It´s 15.80 for all you can eat dinner (8.50 lunch) and there´s some gooooood stuff on that belt. In addition to nigiri, maki, and futomaki, there´s also non-sushi items like miso soup, chicken and shrimp brochetas, noodles, dumplings, etc. You also get flan or ice cream for dessert. Drinks are not included in that price.

Roland and I will be there this Thursday night at 9, and another American named Vicki will be joining us (as well as the dinner on Monday I believe); would anyone else like to come along?

This isn´t the sort of place we can have a proper gathering as it´s only tables of 2 or 4 next to the belt. So just wondering if anyone wants to join our "area" around the belt? yummy

We are sushi addicts and will be going again as many times as we can fit it in before our June departure...so there will be more opportunities if this Thursday doesn´t work for you.

Write me at ktylove@gmail.com with any questions.

hey jules.

what a coinkindink.

ena and i had dinner on her b-day at one with the same concept but it is called "pink sushiman" and it is at calle caballero de gracia number 8 (just off montera and behind gran vía).

www.pinksushiman.com
tel.: 913605608

was gonna post about it sooner but we just went on may 1st and i have been busy.

the place was excellent and reasonably priced for sushi in madrid but NOT nearly as inexpensive as the place you are mentioning as i saw no fixed menus at our place.

at pink sushiman you pay per sushi dish you grab off the belt which winds in and out of the bar and tables.

each dish has a color code and a corresponding price.

they also have hot dishes and other options.

each table or spot at the counter has a water faucet that you serve yourself with, they charge 1 euro for all you can drink water and other drinks have different prices.

dinner for 2 with a TON fo sushi and a few hot dishes and drinks was 60 euros.

best if you have a look at www.pinksushiman.com to see what the place is like cool

the site says it is in chueca but it is not, it is on the other side of gran vía.

i HIGHLY recommend you grab the tofu maki when it comes around the belts, it is AMAZING!

sorry to get off-topic but i just thought since the place we went to is identical to the one you are mentioning it was worth adding.

i will e-mail you about thursday.

saludos,
jer...

This sounds great. I will have to check both places out because I am not a fan o sushi, but good to know that there are non-sushi items involved. The price sounds right.

yeah, i have been thinking about that and it is hard to believe.

boy are they gonna be in trouble, i am a HUGE sush nut! yummy

Jules, there is an all you can eat japanese place in barcelona that ena and i came across and ate at (of course) on a business trip of mine years ago.

it was 20 euros a head but it was not a get up and go to the buffet and get your food type place. just tables and the meny with over 100 diff. dishes. you order what you like from the waiter and they bring it to ya. small portions but since you can order as many as you like, who cares.

i WILL remember the name and address for you before you head off in june.

ena and i are in for thursday night big grin

You make it sound like you actually work. die laughing

But seriously, I will have to check that place out since it is in my old hood. Ríos Rosas / Gregorio Marañón has many good hidden gems.

I must say that I checked out Kintaro and it was really really good. Thanks Juliette!

There is also a really good sushi restaurant on Calle Recoletos called Sushi Itto. It is about 30 euros a person but well worth it in my opinion.

BTW, I think Sushi Itto is a franchise from Mexico DF. I tried it before (not in Madrid) and was not terribly impressed.

Years ago I used to go to a sushi restaurant somewhere (I think) on c/Isabel la Católica near Gran Via... unfortunately I don´t remember the name or exact address... Anybody know if there is a Japanese restaurant in that area?

ola--I think you are talking about Miyama on c/Flor Baja (right around from Isabel la Católica. I like that place a lot, though it's been a while since I've been.
