Is she by any chance the same Olga Ramos who performs from time-to-time at Casa Patas?

Thanks Serge.

For anyone who is wondering what happened to that other Olga Ramos thread that was here earlier, it disappeared.

Only the board admin (me) and the originator of the thread have the power to delete it and it was not me.

Just wanted to clear the air and let you all know that I did not delete the thread.

Saludos,
jer...

This Olga was fairly young, absolutely gorgeous, and serious as a heart attack about her dancing.

I am still in awe of her ability to pull up the zipper on the back of her dress with one graceful movement as it worked its way down during the performance.

That, I believe, is the singular advantage of having a table at casa patas on the side of the stage.

Olga Ramos, Las Olgas y El Cupl de Madrid

INTRODUCTION

In the year Dos mil 2000 I saw a programme about Madrid that contained interviews with different people in Madrid, or more of an informal chat really, one of whom was Ana Belen, talking about La Puerta de Alcala, el Parque del Retiro & life in Madrid in general, and another was with Olga Ramos, to talk about the Cupl, and I was impressed by her performance, and interested by the cupl. Then one day while out & about, I stopped for some lunch near Tio Pepe in La Puerta del Sol.

When I had finished, I went outside for a few minutes to decide where I was going to next, and then I looked up at the buildings just out of interest, and caught sight of this plaque up on the wall, and it was about Olga Ramos, and it reminded me of how popular she was in Madrid for years, and so I decided to Wright it down and also at the same time, to include the section of that programme, in which she tells Roberto a bit about the cupl. And so here it is.

When in Madrid, in La Puerta del Sol,
standing outside Pans & Co, in Calle Alcala,
with Calle Montera to your left, look up above the Pans & Co front windows, and you will see a commemorative plaque to Olga Ramos.

And this is what it says.

And this is taken from the programme about Madrid.

Roberto.
Things start happening at 11pm in Madrid. The frenetic city nightlife kicks off and everyone is there to participate, adults and children alike. There is something there for everyone.

Roberto.
For those that are nostalgic for Old Madrid, Olga Ramos continues to sing her lyrical verses.

Roberto meets Olga for an Informal chat. And even at Ninety years old, shes still singing the Cupl and entertaining many visitors to Madrid.

Roberto
Olga, what exactly is the 'cupl'?

Olga
What we call the 'cupl' is a complex genre that can make people laugh, cry or relate to Madrid and get back to their roots. Or it can make them feel military, for instance, if I sing: "When the drums roll and with the sound of the tarar.."
That is the cupl, very varied, complex and difficult.

Roberto
Is it an old Madrid tradition?

Olga
It spread in Spain, but it isn't from Madrid - it's of French origin. They sang it all over Spain but in the big cities like Barcelona and Madrid, as the latter had good theatres, it caught on much more.

Roberto
But today we only find it in Madrid, don't we?

Olga
Only in the Olgas, I'd say.
The cupl has come to roost in this old corner of Madrid: it has found refuge here.

Again en Castellano

Roberto.
