Just a reminder to you all that our Monday night pub quiz is still going strong and everyone is very welcome to come down and join us. It´s all for charity, it´s a lot of fun and you can also win cash and booze-type prizes and most importantly meet a bunch of people.

It´s at Moores pub every Monday night (the Irish pub right oppostite you when you come out of the Tribunal metro stop) and it´s supposed to start at 9:30 (but ends up being nearer 10:00 by the time we actually get started and everyone´s found a team to join) smiler

Just to echo scooter´s earlier post:

Quiz night tonight in Moore´s pub, Tribunal. New people, old faces and giraffe experts (don´t ask!)especially welcome.

Lots to play for. Bottle of whisky and half the pot for the winners. Free round of drinks for the runners-up and the much coverted bottle of Moore´s wine for the losers. If that wasn´t enough, at the end of each round you have the chance to win prizes which range from chocolate to bags to er, thongs (untested the quiz masters assure me).

As the nights are now dark, chilly and the TV cr*p (rubbish TV not exlusive to Autumn/Winter it must be said) what better way to spend a Monday night than socialising, meeting new people and becoming a little cleverer in the process.

...but for all of you who don't have, and want to meet a Spanish wifey/hubby, the quiz is a really good place to start: loads of nice, young, and apparently single peeps out last night, a good time had by all, and the first step on the road to that flat/bird/tv situation smiler

jejejeje.

ok, time to temporarily hijack this thread (i have earned the right since i have been super generous in letting scooter plug away the pub quiz here on the board). this announcement does not conflict with the pub quiz so all should be cool.

to the point!

in case you all have not noticed, there is an AWESOME tapas night planned for this thursday, oct. 20th.

everyone is invited so if you want to meet new peeps, sign up on the thread at http://spaintalk.multimadrid.org/eve/forums/a/tpc/f...1030511/m/8161001851 and come on down brews

and talk about meeting that "special friend" wink, so far there are quite a few single lovely ladies on the tapas night rsvp list but hardly any single guys frowner

Hmmm, I thought that the board was for plugging events mm members might be interested in - a bit like the ever-popular volleyball thread?

Well, personally I also am p***** off with this thread because I can no longer attend the quiz as often as I want and so am missing out on the fun - not to mention the cute guys. Girls, if you're after that Mr Someone (or even that Mr Someone just for tonight), this is the place to go.

Oh, and you learn a few interesting facts as well. roll eyes

And I suppose I should mention something about raising money to help deserving people in Africa and let people in the developed world achieve their dreams. Worthwhile cause, helping the world, that sort of thing . . .

Elizabeth, thanks but for the record...

while i am sure the pub quiz helps the disadvantaged and i am all for that, it also MAKES MOORE'S PUB A TON-O-CASH every week so this thread is technically an advert for that and is therefore (according to the board rules you all "read" and "agreed to" roll eyes when you signed up as members) not allowed on the board.

i have made an exception for scooter since it is for a good cause but it should not be allowed.

now, if moore's would agree to donate ALL proceeds (if they do scooter, please correct me here) that they make from the quizers to the charity, that is a diff. story and i would even consider giving them a banner ad here.

so, if scooter will forgive my temporary hijack, i will leave the thread up wink

jer...

Moores do give us the prizes for free: a bottle of whisky, plus a round of free drinks for the runners-up, and a bottle of wine for the losers, plus they twist the promoters arms to give us end-of-round prizes.

Like all pub quizzes in all pubs, the interest for the pub is to bring in trade on a quiet night and raise awareness of their pub: this is the pay-off.

Our personal interests are:
a) raising money for the charity
b) creating a new social group (hopefully well in line with the idea of multimadrid) and
c) they do give me and Pete free beers in exchange for the three hours we each put in each week writing it.

By promoting the quiz I have absolutely no interest in promoting Moores pubs : they are as hard-nosed business-wise as any Irish pub in Madrid (but they aren't such bad people)

So far, I've seen a lot of new people arrive and make some enduring friends, which quite frankly, is what I personally care about the most: big foreign city life can be rather lonely and hard work so bringing people together has to be a positive thing: the intercambio thing is in reality a rather sleazy singles scene, but I think this attracts a lot more of a 'normal' bunch.

If in the process of all this we can raise a lot of much-needed money for charity then so much the better smiler

yes scooter, i know they give the prizes away but i was referring to ALL profit (after their cost) made that night on things "consumed" buy the quizers.

not likely they will be giving that up to charity eh? roll eyes

would be a nice amt. of money for charity though, too bad they would not go for that frowner
they should since just the publicity alone that the pub gets should be enough for them. you should negotiate at least a 50/50 split on the profits to share between the pub and the charity. now that your quiz is so popular, you have negotiating power big grin

the rest of your post i completely agree with so...

long live the charity pub quiz!!! brews

Joe,

Sorry I haven't been for the last couple of weeks, I've been working late on a Monday. I'll definately be there next week though to defend my "crown" big grin

P.S. We need to talk about that trip to Paris, if you're still up for it.

I spend most of my money on beer and women, the rest I just waste.
