Despite the "college hangout" name, this place is really cool. It's owned by Ewan, a young Asian ex-pat who's done a very nice job with the place. It's got style and delicious chicken wings with all kinds of sauces, including a nicely spicy one, of course beer and other libations, and yummy fresh salads for you veggies or folks who'd like a little nutrition with their meat. Excellent prices, too. About 10E a person will stuff you nicely.
It's also got a LOOOOOONNNNGGG table perfect for a big ol' multimadrid gathering!
So how about it? Anyone game? I know everyone's Semana Santa-ing right now so I'll propose it a little down the road:
Wings & Beer c/Martin de Los Heros, 4 Metro Plaza Espaa Wednesday, April 6, 10 pm
Post here if you can go so I can let Ewan know approximately what to expect.
Hey guys, I tried this place once, and I have to say the wings are seriously not that great at all. I found a place on the "Vaguada" mall one of those spanish places trying to look american, that acutally did have pretty good wings.
I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.

the place IS cool and the wings were good(despite the bits of feathers still clinging plus the unforgiveable lack of blue cheese dip)...meaty, generous, finger-licking
the owner is a charmer, but despite his american-work mentality...the service is typically spanish. i've been twice now and both times it was half full and yet the service was godawful. ten minutes to get looked at. another ten for the drinks to arrive. then they didnt' even take our food order when dropping off the drinks. i was like, hi...i am in your restaurant because, surprise...i am hungry. it makes me angry. i have come to expect crap service from spanish-run places, but when an expat opens a place, you'd think they'd fix that. not so. (and don't get me started on the horrid service at blue fish!)
anyway, if ewan reads this....please, i like your food, your prices are great, the atmosphere is tops...but if the service bites the next time i go, i won't return.
sorry for venting guys...15 years running restaurants makes me a bit picky about things!
besides all that...i'll be there on the 6th. i am sure as FOJs service will rock.
that is Friends of Juliettes.

Fabrizio is coming out? :lo:
Why was I not invited to this debutant ball?
Does this mean that Fabrizio is now high Society and that everyone will now know that he is on the market and available for courting? :jeje:
Anyway, I know this place and I am sure that it will be fine. See you there.

I've been there several times and I have to say, the last time I went the wings were not as good as the first two times. However, they were still good, the service was great, probably true that it was because I know Ewan and I'm sure he will do the same for y'all, the salads were great, the wine was great, and the atmosphere great.
As Rocco said, at the very least it will be fine and a good time and nice to see you all again!
My experience with service was pretty much the same as Candela, though I didn't bring it up because it was close to their opening day, so I thought it was just related to getting all their processes right.
Maybe the wings thing is a matter of taste, for me "Hooters" wings are substantially better than these...
Rocco, I won't be coming out then, cause I really don't like their food. and no I am not coming out as far as being single, I am still with what's her face(she really likes to be called that...)

hey Roland, lets not be so harsh with Fabrizio now. maybe in Italy (where he is from), "boobs" are referred to as "wings" :jeje: :jeje: :jeje:
ok, as for me, i have never been to w&b so i am up for trying it out. im sure that if ewan knows we are coming (especially after reading this thread), he will pull out all the stops and make it a great time for us.
basically, ewan has a golden opportunity to impress a good group of people (many of whom have a lot of contacts). worst case he blows it and, as candela said, we never go back.
