Okay. The next hiking / excursion to Alcala de Henares is now being planned for Saturday January 29th.

1). Meet at Atocha renfe on Saturday Jan. 29th at 12noon.

2). Take the train to Alcala de Henares.

3). Meet up with the people who go by car.

4). Walk around Alcala de Henares for a couple of hours.

5). Have tapas in Alcala de Henares.

6). Return to Madrid.

I just wanted to revive this thread and let everyone know that we are still on for Alcala de Henares on Saturday Jan. 29th.
Many people will be going by car so those of us taking public transportation will meet at Atocha Renfe where we will take the train out to meet them.
Once in Alcala de Henares, we should all meet at the main bus station infront of a huge Champion supermarket around 1:30pm.
We call all walk from there.
Everyone is welcom to go and feel free to post here if you are interested in going or if you might need a ride.

Good stuff, Juliette.

It should be fun. We will walk around exploring the town and then check out a few places for tapas and drinks.

Anyone who plans on taking the train should post here so that we do not leave Atocha Renfe station without you.

So where do we meet at Atocha...the platform for the train to Alcala? And does the train leave at 12 noon or are we just meeting then and taking the next one whenever it is?

Will be bringing a friend or two too.

We will meet at the tourist info stand at Atocha Renfe at 12 noon on Saturday Jan. 29th.

We will meet at the people going by car at the bus station in Alcala de Henares at 1pm and go from there.

Walk a little.
Break for tapas.
Walk a little.
Break for wine / drinks.
Finish around / by 8pm for the early birds who need / want to get back.
See you there.

This is just a quick note to remind everyone to bring plenty of warm clothes tomorrow for the field trip to Alcala de Henares as it may be a cold in the shade and certainly when the sun goes down in the evening.

Take care and see you all there tomorrow either at atocha at noon or alcala at 1pm.

Just wanted to say the trip went really well and we all had a great time! We had around 13 people and enjoyed Alcal� de Henares a lot. Especially the huge tapas you get with every drink, in all the bars. We spent nothing on food and ate well!

The town is very cool and VERY old...almost makes Madrid look modern by comparison.

Thanks Rocco for organizing, and we look forward to the next outing!

thanks to Rocco for organizing and to Ramon (used to be local) for saving the day and schooling us on the 2 best tapas bars in alcala de henares :cheers:

to boot, we had sun and great wether all day

don't hesitate to sign up for the next excursion peeps, it was lots-o-fun!!!

Thanks jer for posting the photo.
It is good for people to have a visual image of what one of these outings looks like.

Anyway, our next trip will be to Cecerdilla / Navacerrada area.

We will go look at the snow.

This trip is tentatively scheduled for Saturday Feb. 26th but I will confirm with the full details later.
