Hi, I'm a 38 year old English teacher who visits Madrid two or three times a year. (Mainly for the Flamenco)Sometimes my boyfriend comes with me - sometimes I go alone. What I'd really like (if it doesn't sound too sad) is a friend/s in Madrid - soemone I could keep in touch with by email and then maybe meet up for a drink with when I'm there.I'm learning Spanish, so if it was someone who wanted to swap English for Spanish emails then that would be even better. I was going to look into 'penpal' websites but thought I'd try this one first - well, if it can find Spanish waiters for people...!!!

See youve done your homework on this site then!!!!!!! Just go along to any one of the mm gettogethers. I am sure you will have a good time. I have never been in Madrid when they are happening, but when I passed through last Oct Jer and Ian met me and my friend for bocadillos and chat. Just put up the date of your next visit and I am sure someone will meet you!!! It really made all the difference to our stopover in Madrid, so if you are there for a few days, even better!!!

I had a Madrileno friend suggest a good way to meet people in the P d Sol area is to walk around in the crowd with Monopoly money hanging out of your pocket. She also suggested a camera around the neck as a nice touch.
This approach is supposedly equally effective around Plz Callao, Plz Santa Ana (Fri and Sat evenings are best), Paseo de Prado near C/Atocha and, the entrance to Casa del Campo.
She was a bit upset with me at the time all this was suggested, so I questioned her motives and never tried the advice.
Jer later confirmed this was not the way to go.

I'd bet it would work at the Rastro on Sunday mornings, or in the Chamartin and Atocha train stations! I know it would work here on Central Ave. at night!

I'm American and have been here for 12 years and I'm married to a Spaniard. I work very long hours and only have free time on the weekends (I'm a mom with a 7 year old), but email if you want and we can see if we could/want to meet sometime.
