Hey all!!
I have a friend from Dubai, UAE comming into town this Friday the 30th. I imagine it's short notice...but I was hoping some might be interested in getting together for a dinner/drinks or both this Friday. My list of cool places is getting longer, but I would appreciate any input from the mmer gang.
Well for food there are a ton of options, it just depends on what your in the mood for. Are you wanting to expose her to typical Spanish food because if so I've found none better than La Casarola which is the site of most of our mm dinners. If the idea is American food I always head to Tony Romas for their barBQ ribs. Depending on the type of food your in the mood for I probably know of a really good restaurant with the exception to African which I'd be willing to try. I've had it in the past in other cities and loved it, I've just not tried any of the african restaurants in Madrid yet. I've got a copy of a recent Guia del Ocio so it's just a question of limiting it down to one or two options.
As for drinks like everyone I have a couple of favorite places. One of the current favorites with my friends is a little belgium bar off the plaza mayor. They have a huge selection of beers, including some I really like and I'm not normally a beer drinker. If your trying to impress her with how hip Madrid is then I'd recommend Ojala on calle San Andres. Upstairs is ok, but the place to be is downstairs where the floor is covered in sand and all the tables are low with cushions on the floor to sit on. We'd have to get there early on a friday night but they offer dinner. The prices are a bit steep but you usually just order appitizers and drinks. In fact i went there several months ago and didn't care much for their food. I found it overpriced and not spectacular with exception to their bombas. We paid twenty euros each and I had one drink and was still feeling hungry. Their drinks were good though and the atmosphere was really cool. The people who own Ojala are the same that own La Musa off the calle Malasana. For a more intimate atmosphere you want to go to El Jardin Secreto which I love, but i'm not sure how late they are open. As mentioned before, I'm up for nearly anything though.
Cheers, Bonnie
