Any suggestions? Due to getting very cheap tickets I find myself and a friend with a 7 hour layover between flights. As we would prefer not to hang around Barajas Airport we thought we would Aerocity it into town and do? What? We arrive about 17.00 and our onward flight leaves at 23.25.

Hey madsue, first of all I must scorn you for only having 7 hours in Madrid Frowner

If I were you, I would just go into the center and walk around, if your friend has not been to Madrid show him/her the city center and go to the PALACIO DE COMUNICACIONES as well as it is an amazing sight.

Get a BOCADILLO DE CALAMARES and some PATATAS BRAVAS at LA CAMRANA on Calle Botoneras just off the PLAZA MAYOR and just chill out Cool

Aaaaaahh, what a life Big Grin

Saludos,
jer...

p.d. and of course, don't forget to call jer on his cellphone (656266844) to invite him to some of those Bravas Big Grin

hi jer, sounds good to me!!!I was in Madrid in March with my parents, but my friend has never been to the mainland even. It is an unexpected bonus to have these few hours available!!

So if you dont mind accompanying one middle-aged (me) and one a few years younger, ladies for supper, then we will call you from the Plaza Mayor, and hopefully you and Ena will join us!!!

mad sue

If I was only there for a few hours, I would stop at La Mallorquina before heading back to the airport!! :l: :l:

Oh dear jer, sorry to disappoint you but this is madsue (Lanzarote) not Mad-Sue who is off to Barcelona!!! Should I change my name? After all she was here first!!! Does all this make a difference to meeting for supper???!!! AND what/where is La Mallorquina?

We will be in Madrid on Friday 25th October, arriving Barajas at (hang on while sue looks at itinarary) at 18.30, leaving for Malaga at (oops - less than 7 hours!!) 23.25. Do we still have time to enjoy ourselves?

No, actually I knew it was madsue form Lanzarote but for some reason I though that you were heading to BCN as well, not sure why I thought that.

Anyway, of course it would not matter which Sue you are to have dinner silly! Red Face

Ok, I am going to pretend you did NOT just ask what the Mallorquina is Razzer

For starters, try reading through the 3 page thread on it HERE Cool

You can enjoy yourself in Madrid in much less than 7 hours Smiler

No, we are off to AGP. As you will see on my post on the search I have only just seen that some topics run to more than one page!! Just how many of these :b: should I post here!!!

Right, thats us then, meet for bocadillos de calamares, followed by..... La Mallorquina for palmeras. This I must try as the ones here in Lanzarote are exactly like frisbees made of cardboard. Anyone else wanting to come and join us?

Should I get Aerocity to drop us and pick us up at the Plaza Mayor or somewhere different?

Madsue, you could always try taking the Metro instead of Aerocity for a real Madrid experience! Especially if your friend has never been to the "mainland"! The Metro from the airport is clean and efficient. Smiler

I kind of agree with you, and it's a great way to save money. Only thing is, you can't see where you are going on the Metro, so miss out on the extra 20 mins each way of sightseeing. Roll Eyes

Other option would be to catch the bus and see some of the outdoor Madrid before walking rest of way from Colon into centre, or catching Metro.

Oh, I don't know. I love the Metro, but just feel that in this short space of time, it might not be the best option.

Oh, and madsue, if you do take Aeorcity, you could always get the driver to go a route you particularly wanted (I think) to show your friend something extra.

Have a great time anyway, I'm sure you will Cool .

Also, if the Aerocity shuttle is full or shared with others, it may even be faster to take the Metro to the city center depending on the order of the drop-offs.

As someone who makes the Metro trip at least once a week, I can tell ya that it takes 45 min-1hr from international arrivals terminal to Puerta del Sol via Metro, door to door so to speak).

Jo, I like the idea of taking the bus to Coln and walking, that would be a good sightseeing walk down the Castellana to Cibeles and right down Calle Alcal into Puerta del Sol Big Grin Nice recommendation, you should post more often Red Face
