So... Im catching the bus from the airport (coming in to the national terminal not international - will that make a difference?) getting off in Plaza de Colon, walking down the Paseo de Recoletos to Cibeles, then down Alcala to Plaza Mayor. Sounds excellent!!! Thanks everyone. Ill see you in a a few weeks then!!!!

If your flight lands on time (6:30pm), you should be able to get the bus by 7pm and be in Madrid (Coln) by 7:30-7:40, the walk down to Sol will be about 20-30 minutes.
You should be in Sol/Plaza Mayor area by 8:00-8:815pm which gives ya about 2 hours to hang before you should get back to the airport (via taxi I assume) by 10:30pm. I would normally not recommend a taxi to the airport (see my taxi rip-offs thread HERE for more) but you are going to be a bit pressed to get back and you want to take advantage of the little time you have in Madrid.
Yikes! Ena and I bought a new car (ordered it this month) and will be picking it up in Jerez de la Frontera either the weekend of the 18-20 or 25-27 of October (depending on when it is ready).
If the car is not ready until the last weekend, I will not make the little get together that Friday
Let's hope those folks at Citren get cracking!
Will keep you updated here on this thread. In the meantime, feel free to set a meeting time and place (ie. 8:30pm in front of the horsey in Plaza Mayor) in case anyone else wants to join in.
Thanks Jer, Hope your car is ready the weekend before!! But we will be under the horsey at 8.30sh and if anyone is looking at your webcam and sees two old dears wandering around please come and get us!!! Yes, I will take a taxi back to the airport - but at least this time I will know if they are ripping me off! I will keep in touch and phone when we arrive!!!
Come on all!!! Under the horsey at 8.30 25th October to give us a good sendoff before our trip to Andalucia!!!!

Hey madsue and all, it would seem that the new car gods are smiling down on us for I am going this weekend to pick up the new wheels and WILL therefore be able to hang out on the 25th
So, under the horsey statue of Felipe III in the Plaza Mayor ( CLICK HERE FOR THE PIC) at 8:30pm on Friday October 25th, be there or be "cuadrado"
Looking forward to it!!! Just remember that we have to catch an onward to Malaga!!! Saw on another thread that you were thinking of going to see Moby in Barcelona. Glad you came to your senses - it will be much better meeting us for calamares!!!!

Jer, Only 5 more sleeps till we are in madrid for our short stopover!!! Having read the forecast for the next ten days (rain and cold!!) yesterday I booked a pickup through your homepage with Aerocity. They said they would confirm within 12 hours - which they havent. Should I be worried, or is it cos its the weekend, or should I have specified a hotel as opposed to just "Plaza Major". Whatever happens I, and friend Sandra, will be under the horsey at 8.30 on Friday. (I have to warn you that if it is raining Sandra is going to be wearing a full length plastic mac!!!) :jeje: Me? Well if it is raining I will be barefoot!!!

Three more sleeps, confirmation from Aerocity and the suitcase is packed!!! I am on my way and wish I could spend more time in MADRID!!!! Quite sad that no-one else has said they want to come join us for tapas. Maybe there will be a crowd under the horsey at 8.30 p.m. on Friday 25th October!!!! HINT HINT!!!!!

Hey all, madsue & friend have arrived a bit early (oh how we can tell they are not Spanish ) and are down in the Plaza now.
Am heading down now as well. We will wait until 8:30ish under the statue to see if anyone else shows and then head to "La Camrana" on calle de las Boteoneras (just off the Plaza).
You can always call me on my cell (656266844) if you can't find us or is ya show up late.
Jeremy, Sorry we didnt make it out last night. I sat around waiting for Matt whose train arrived almost 2 hrs. late! We did end up getting a bite to eat....but not until close to 11pm. R
