Hey all, I am off to NY on March 26th and will be available to have a NYC get together on one of the following dates...
 March 27th, 29th, 30th. April 3rd, 4th, 5th.
I am waiting to hear back from member "kikesadillas" (currently lives in NY) who suggested we get together at "Xunta" (think it is a Spanish tapas bar in the city ) one day.
If anyone else is in, let me know ASAP so I can plan something.
Yes, Jer...I was going to suggest that we all try to get together whle you are here in NY...Xunta is a good place...good atmosphere and very good tapas.
I am always so envious of you guys in Madrid each time you have brunch or go out together. . So glad you suggested this. Of the dates you mentioned I cannot make the 29th...all the other days are fine

Xunta sounds always fine  April 5th will be good for us, too.
Here's a review of Xunta for those that have never been there. Xunta Review
It gets rather crowded sometimes, what time should we meet?. They have two kinds of tables. Those ones that are like wine barrels and can accomodate 4 people tops each. They also have longer tables that can accomodate about 12~14 people each.
Let's see how many people are going and how early/let we should go.
This is a link to the location's map Xunta Map For those who are not that familiar with NY's subway, the closest stop is the L line @ 1st avenue. (the bar is 3 streets south down 1st avenue)

Jer,
After you mentioned this i checked hotmail and your message wasn't there...until i decided to take a look at the junk mail folder, just in case, and there you were!! do you have any idea why went there? I'm not really sure what parameters stupid hotmail uses in order to decide what goes in there and what doesn't...anyone knows? I'll put you in hotmail's "safe" address now in any case, what were you doing snooping in my junk folder? (there's nothing but empty beer and wine bottles there )

Because of the war, when I left Madrid on Thursday they were making people empty out their checked bags before they would give a boarding pass. I don't know if this was random or if everyone was searched. But if it wasn't random it sure was a lot of people. The security guy told me there were American security people there supervising this regarding all flights to the US.
At least they do it right there with you instead of behind the scenes.
I just thought I'd mention it so you don't pack so tightly that you couldn't get it all back in quickly if you had to.

And for heaven's sake, shave really, really well! You look scary when you're hairy! Well, okay, maybe not to me, but you never can tell about those security people.

Well, now, there's a party I can attend without getting on a plane! Ironically, I was just at Xunta about a month ago. April 5th, you say? [marking calendar] I think I'll be able to swing that. See you all there! And Jer, good luck on the flight. Just give them what they want, (money, firstborn, Rolex), and you'll be juuuust fine. Otherwise, it's 12 hours of body cavity searches and interrogation.
Jejejeje, sounds like I may be in for a search, I look like such a dirtbag when I fly

Not sure of the date or time yet, I was thinking a weeknight might be better than a Friday or Saturday night so maybe April 3rd (Thursday). I have heard that "Xunta" PACKS out on weekends and we may not get a table.
Anyone know if they take reservations?
Reservations may be a problem too since more people tend to show up at these gatherings than those who say they are coming.
Would anyone not be able to make it on Thursday, April 3rd??? Is a weekday bad for you guys???
Thursday would be a bit difficult for me as many times i leave work late, plus my company is moving to a new office those and i fear i will be doing much of the moving. In any case Thursdays get crowded too as it's genrally "Flamenco night". I'm not sure if they take reservations, i can try to find out/or make it once we know a definite day.

If anyone else wants to come, PLEASE post here before Thursday, April 3rd as I was told by Gonzalo at "Xunta" that I should call that day at the LATEST to confirm how many we will be.
I will check this thread again at noon NY time on April 3rd and get a FINAL # of those going so I can let "Xunta" know early.
I wish this could be a "just show up if you like" thing like the ones here in Madrid but apparently "Xunta" is a hotspot
