I had such a great time meeting you guys! None of my friends ever want to talk about Spain, let alone be dragged to a Spanish restaurant. They just don't know what they're missing! Glad to hear you made it back safe! You should have packed us all in your luggage Melinda

I know it was true, I was just teasing with the hit-and-run thing when i got there the waitress told me you stopped by but were coming soon. I was just so surprised that i wasn't the last one... Jer, I see that you flipped the pic, that was nice. I'll send you the two pics we took in case you want them...

Hey kike, yeah, I took your advice and changed the perspective on the pic so people could read the words "Xunta" and "Tapas Bar" in the window. I was wondering if anyone but you would notice. Got that you were razzing me on the hit and run thing and after almost 2.5 yrs. of not having driven in NYC, it could easily have been a hit & run, TRUST ME Melinda, keep the faith!!! So many people share your same love for Spain and also have friends and family that just do not understand. I have seen it a million times on this and other boards. Only those bitten by the Spain bug can see where you are coming from. Saludos, jer... p.d. kike, please do send me those pics, I will post the best of the 2 here on this thread.

Jer, I knew that was your mum in the pic! She's so gorgeous! I remember seeing a picture of her at your place on New Year'eve . Is funny how the ceiling thingies (decorations) at Xunta remind me a little bit of the Maceiras (Maceira II) restaurant in calle Huertas. I'm glad you and Ena are glad to be back home and I'll see you on Sat. :ks:

Hey, m Om ( ) is from Israel (lived there till she was 9 yrs old) and yes, she is very young looking. Come to think of it, to my recollection she never seems to change (get any older) Like the photo you saw in my apt. pim, it was taken almost 10 yrs ago and she looks the same. Birsen, I think that is where my "young spirit" comes from. Hmmmm... my great grandmother on my dad's side of the family lived til the ripe old age of 103 and only stopped going dancing at age 100 Hope it is in the genes Saludos, jer...

Actually my grandma is not 118, but she's 95 and still plays bridge with her friends (she has a very sharp mind) and STILL SMOKES!!! . She's been smoking for close to 75 years!! If they had those cigarrete collecting points back then when she started to smoke, she could have bought a Rolls Royce by now! kike

Hey Mike, read the posts above on this thread for opinions and feedback on Xunta. Ok, Xunta is not a place to go on a romatic honeymoon, that's for sure. Wish I could recommend a romantic Spanish restaurant in NYC but I am pretty clueless!!! Maybe another Spain lovin New Yorker can help? Saludos, jer...

Thinking about Xunta as aromantic place...well , no...I wouldn't recommend it for what you are looking for. You might try these three possibilities that I took from here. ! I have been to Pipa and I thought it was really good! It is very big, and spacious yet the decor is eclectic and fun. The food was delicious too!. quote: Meigas. It's been said that Luis Sollo, chei of this nuevo Spanish restaurant, will do for Spanish cooking in America what chefs like Daniel Boulud and Jean-Georges Vongerichten have done for French. It's a pit he has to do it in such an uninspired setting. Bollo's food is highly conceptualized but grounded in Spanish tradition: A better squid in black ink sauce would be difficult to find. Suckling pig is super, Braised oxtail croquettes are heady and satisfying. A chilled octopus terrine forms a beautiful mosaic on the plate. But some dishes, particularly desserts, fall flat on their abstract face. (Beware of the herb foam.) And don't expect a lively scene-a kitsch mural of a sorcerer (meigas in Spanish) painted without any irony and an energy-zapping atmosphere give the restaurant an inexplicably sedate feeling, even when it's packed. 121 250 Hudson St., at King St., 212/627-5800. Reservations essential. AE, MC, V, Closed Sun. No lunch,
Bolo. With its tile-edge brick oven, primary color scheme, open kitchen, and polished wood bar, Bolo's design fuses Manhattan and some fictional version of Barcelona. Bobby Flay's loosely Spanish-in-spired food takes aim at New York palates, but it doesn't always hit:green onion gazpacho is refreshing and spicy, but squid ink risotto is gummy and overcooked. If you're not in the mood for sangria, select from the well-priced wine list. 23 E. 22nd St., between Broadway and Park Ave. S, 212/228-2200. Reservations essential. AE, MC, V. No lunch weekends.
Pipa. The father of Nuevo Latino cuisine, Douglas Rodriguez, turns his attention to Spain at this festive tapas bar in home furnishings store ABC Carpet 8c Home, next door to his restaurant Chicama. The menu has over 50 items, such as cocas, flavorful pizzalike flatbreads covered with savory toppings such as delicious garlicky clams, tender sauteed porcini mushrooms, and white beans and serrano ham. More traditional tapas on the order of garlic shrimp and grilled chorizo come in traditional clay dishes, and are perfect for nibbling with one of the many sherries on the wine list. ABC made all of Pipa's design decisions, and the resulting look is that of a Victorian interior decorator gone mad. Chandeliers hang on top of one another and one concrete wall is oozing with shells. There's a fountain that gurgles to one side and an abundant array of colorful pillows in each booth. 38E. 19th St., between Broadway and Park Ave. S, 212/677-2233. Reservations not accepted. AE, D, DC, MC, V.
