I HATE digital cameras! They take crappy pictures. Its more expensive to buy the ink for a computer printer than to develop them and if you lose the file, you never have that picture again. Negatives are so much better. And they make much better enlargements Smiler

>I HATE digital cameras! - Hmmm, I :ks: mine!
>They take crappy pictures. - There are digital cameras that take crappy pictures, same as there are non-digital cameras that take crappy pictures!
>Its more expensive to buy the ink for a computer printer than to develop them - Cartridges are expensive but, who prints every picture? I don't, So it works out cheaper!
>and if you lose the file, you never have that picture again. - Same if you lose the negative!! You can 'back-up' files!
>Negatives are so much better. - At what??
>And they make much better enlargements - Not necessarily! Depends on the picture quality in the first place!

BTW, you forgot to mention that the batteries don't last very long!(at least in mine) but then I'd say - Buy a recharger and rechargeable batteries!!

Hurrah!! Safe and sound back in my MuffinMansion(TM) - didn't have time to post the other day on how grateful I was to y'all for the night out - thanks to everyone who made a special effort to come out (Melinda is hereby awarded a Medal of Honor from the League of Muffins). To those who couldn't make it - catch you next time.

Had a great time as ever in all your company and nice to properly meet some new and recent family members Smiler too. A BIG thank you to Jer for his senseless generosity - my IOU list is getting way too long Jer Big Grin

For those who missed the dancing afterwards, you REALLY missed out there. Shavon was ON FIRE!! Cool She made #4's night Wink (yes you did, girl!) Anyone who needs salsa lessons, get to the back of the line - she da woman! "Big up" to those who were made of tough enough stuff to stay till the lights came up.

Serge, we will do the alternative club (with the poles, the tables, the secluded booths etc... Big Grin ) next time. Just kidding Mrs. Serge, he wouldn't even dance!

Well, I am going to miss you all, truly. My little Scottish MuffinPad(TM) will not be mine in the spring (landlady aka Mom wants to sell) so I will be FORCED to return to Madrid whether I want to or not!! Surely there is no other option?

Fear not, I will be on the board every now and then to check in on things, and I'll keep you updated on my Evil Plan. Until next time, keep Madrid warm for me.

Muffino signing off Smiler

I have a professional camera so my normal camera takes about as good of pictures as you can take. And when I bought it 2 years ago I was between buying that one and a good digital camera and the 5 stores I shopped in all told me that for high quality pictures that I plan on enlarging and using my camera for a more professional purpose (as soon as I get a real job Im going to start taking photography courses), a digital camera is a waste of money because the quality cannot compare to that of a real camera.

I print out all my pictures. I make albums, label everything on the back with the names, dates, places and put in little reminders of each event. Im obnoxiously organized when it comes to photographs. Its my one obsession. When I have kids and I want to pull out the pictures to share the memories with them, do I want to do it in front of a computer screen or in a book where I can hold them in my lap? Id rather a book. You can always scan the originals anyway!

A quick hello to the board from a grey and cold Scotland. All this talk of volleyball, BBQs, Thanksgiving dinners etc etc is torture!! so I am steering clear. I've been struck down my some lurgy or other but I have struggled manfully (ie moaning and thinking I'm going to die) to the keyboard.

Melinda, seeing as you are so keen on the photo thing, you should consider digital now (IF you have Canon or Nikon-fit lenses), but just not your consumer-level cameras. Have a look round the web for the Fuji S2 or Nikon's d100, or Canon's offerings and you'll see what's possible. Scanning is time-consuming (believe me, I've done way too much) and dedicated transparency/negative scanners are still expensive. If you're more organised than me (not difficult Big Grin ) you need never lose an image. Prints from digital now rival and can exceed the quality of film; running costs are way cheaper if you are a serious photographer, which means you can experiment (and learn) to your heart's content. The only issue of real note is the change in focal length of your lenses that a non fullframe CCD produces - an increase of about 1.5x I think (eg 24mm becomes 36mm, 300mm becomes 450mm), which can work for or against you. At the moment fullframe (ie equivalent to 35mm film) is still very expensive. If you don't have Canon or Nikon gear, you might want to really research what's due out before jumping one way or the other. But whichever way, digital is the future already!

Not to mention BRUTAL considering file sizes that come out of the scanner if you do not use it right Razzer

Melinda, the 4 pic sets you sent me (while much appreciated) weighed in at a total of 10+ MEGS Eeker and to put them on the web I am gonna have to do some SERIOUS tweaking.
