I have been wondering about this as well. What will the rules be, if any, on this expat gathering thing? I have attended some other group meetings and this was a very difficult/confusing issue.
When I attended one meeting in particular for people who were half Spanish and half English or American, it did not work so well because all of the girlfriends/boyfriends and husbands/wives who were Spanish felt left out and uninvited, besides all of the people who did not show up in the first place because they had the foresight and knew that this would probsbly happen.
So what do you think we can do about this and all of the other Spanish board members who would like to get involved or attend?

FEBBRERO 6 at 8PM, Cafe Comercial. Sounds Great!!!! Lets call it a capital P Plan! Also, there is no reason we have to meet at the same place. And of course, we can always do things like meet on Wed before the Cafe Madrid party and then head over there en masse. Whatever!

As for rules...um, I dont do so well with those. As long as my caa glass stays full, Ill consider all rules fufilled.

Okay, seriously, I guess I see Roccos point. We had originally talked about having sort of a support group for expats so that we can basically have someone to talk to about our struggles. folks that have been there done that. also it could be a great resource as well. once youve been here a while you forget that getting butano bottles, buying your abono de transporte, paying your gastos, opening a bank account, buying a replacement doorhandle, etc, etc. is actually quite hard for newcomers. so the group would be great for that. but then again....

this board has all of that and more. maybe the expat/mm thing is just a great time for us mulmers (hah, i just created that word!) to get together...expat or no, sorta like a virtual mm board.

either way i will be a cafe comercial come febrero 6, caa in hand, munching olives, and just bursting with madrid enthusiasm!

Hey Val! That's precisely why I love having another parent on the board. I don't feel like the only one out there who doesn't go out partying all the time like all these other youngsters out there! Red Face

I appreciate your helping curb my geriatric complex...! Give Sammy a 'beso' from Anissa, Mari and I when you put him to bed on Thursday! Big Grin Wink Big Grin

Have a great time at your get together guys...!

Hey Tony, Val...I dont know if its a parent thing so much as a old married couple thing. Dont get me wrong...chico and I do have our social life...but it tends to end when other social lives are just kicking up!

I agree that being an expat in its intial stages can be challenging and frustrating, but you can also learn lots from the native espaoles that are here, not just the expats that have "been there done that".

Im venting my frustrations. Being married to a Spaniard, I try to stay away from events that label themselves as "expat" activities. Alot, from my experience, have been exclusive rather than inclusive.

Anyway, I am rambling in letra alta (je je je). Keep on posting about other activities, perhaps well be able to join you all in the future!

Hey Val & Tony, my day will come as far as the kiddie thing is concerned Big Grin

I understand that you can't make these types of events but our SUNDAY BRUNCH was coooooool, where were ya Confused Twas a weekend and no Val, Carlos, Tony, Mari, Sammy nor Anissa in sight at the brunch table Frowner Don't tell me you all don't like French Toast, Pancakes and Bagels Eeker

Ok, Chica, that married to a Spaniard thing just ain't gonna cut it babe Red Face I am with Ena (Mardilea tride & true) and we do these things together. We are not yet married but it is as if we were.

In fact, she and her sister Carmen were only 2 of the at least 6 Spaniards at brunch on Sunday and it was really quite a mixed crowd. Ena said her head hurt from speaking and hearing so much English but I am sure it did her well as she still has a lot to learn. We could surely get some more English into Chico if you guys came along Smiler

I will also now take this opportunity to rename our get togethers and remove the word Ex-Pat from them Big Grin As I mentioned on the other thread HERE, EVERYONE IS INVITED and FROM ANYWHERE!!!

Chica, you wrote...

I totally agree which is why Spaniards are VERY welcome at this Thursday night's get together as well as all subsequent gatherings I also think that pim (Paloma la Espaola) is coming on Thurday with her English beua Paul.

"I dont know if its a parent thing so much as a old married couple thing."
I really think it has to do more with living outside of Madrid than being a parent or "an old married couple", it can be a real pain to get into the city in the early evenings with a car and I understand that.

Hope to see you all Thursday.

Saludos,
jer...
