Bought a volleyball set this past Saturday, we played yesterday at our 3rd multimadrid BarBQ and had an AWESOME TIME.
Starting this volleyball thread to get some games going in the Retiro on Sunday afternoons.
ANYONE and EVERYONE is welcome to come play, and I mean ANYONE!!!
Ok, I am going to scout out a god grassy area of the Retiro this week so I can let everyone know where we will have the net set up on Sunday.
This Sunday, June 15th will be the first attempt at getting a game together. We will play from 4-7pm.
VERY IMPORTANT: THE IDEA HERE IS TO HAVE FUN. THERE WILL BE A MIX OF GUYS & GALS, EXPERIENCED & INEXPERIENCED PLAYERS, SHORT & TALL, ETC... IF YOU ARE A VERY COMPETITIVE PERSON AND WANT A PROFESSIONAL VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE, THIS ISW NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU. WE ARE GETTING TOGETHER IN THE SPIRIT OF EXERCISE AND FUN, NOT EXTREME CUT-THROAT COMPETITION.
I HEREBY RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ADMITTANCE TO THE GAMES AND/OR BAN ANYONE FROM PLAYING IF THEY SHOULD GET OUT OF HAND.
SIGNED... THE COACH :jeje:
I have the net and balls :jeje: , just need the players.
Keep an eye on this thread for more news and the exact meeting spot for volley
Saludos, jer...
p.d. these volleyball games will be B.Y.O.D. (Bring Your Own Drinks)
Yay! The inaugural mm volleyball game was great fun Sunday (as was the rest of the day) so I for one will be honing my already impeccable court skills (you can stop laughing now Becky) every Sunday I can. Can we make it BYOC (bring your own cheerleaders) too?
3 hours is long enough for us to mix things up a bit, so definitely the more the merrier. If anyone wants to try badminton using the same net (not at the same time obviously - that would be like trying to play football in the middle of a volleyball court and no-one would be dumb enough to try that - oh wait...) that could be fun too. Rackets are pretty cheap.
So let's show those Raul & Ronaldo wannabe's how to play a real sport. Go team mm!! (and please bring cheerleaders -please?).

I'm in , I'm in! you guys are tempting me with my two favourite sports (to play)! :l:
I was quite sad for not attending the bbq yesterday, but keep consoling myself because I had pulled a muscle in my right hand on Thursday, and though I was brave enough to do some serious tortilla flipping with Candy that evening (kept it vegetarian, for Adrian to enjoy ), the next day it got worse, so even if I had been at La Panera I would have been too scared to voleyball or frisbee....

Count me in once I get there. I love this new way we all have of keeping in shape. I plan on joining a gym and getting rid of the belly. IT'S GOT TO GO.
I look forward to all of our ventures together and especially our get togethers. OHHHHHH!!! I can't wait.
2 more sundays left. DELICIOUS . . .

Jejejejeje, love the spirit of competition just don't want any die-hard dictator volley wackooooooooos :lo: getting al crazy and yelling at those who do not know how to play so well (ie. ME!!!).
I have seen this happen before so I just want to warn ahead of time... WE ARE HERE TO HAVE FUN!!!
Joy, hmmmmmm... not far, I have been told I look cute in the striped skirt
Shawn, we can even play the Sunday you arrive (if you are not too tired). If you are beat, you can just chill and watch.
I will play it by ear when I get there. I will probably just want to watch. I will need to shower and change after being on a plane all night long. But, we shall see. If I don't play, I will cheer.

You bet I'm in... I'm doing my ballet stretches now. You thought my piroet at the mm bbq volleyball game was something but you aint seen nothing yet. Plus I was just waiting for something like this to come along as I have a lot of fond memories of the different times I was good at playing volleyball. We might actually get a few glimpses of greatness from me and all of the mm'ers. Rocco.

I can't wait to see Rocco "getting in touch with his inner volleyballer". My inner volleyballer is about 2 feet high and cross-eyed, so I'm not goin' near that bad boy. Whilst we're comparing past glories though, my badminton moves have been compared to something you might see members of the Bolshoi attempt, so anyone not actually playing may want to bring roses to throw (yay, those Chinese ladies will finally make a sale or two).
Rollerblading - better known to me as the "how much skin can you remove from your body game" - would be great if someone can tell me where to buy cheap (but decent) skates and full body armour (complete with built in a/c unit).
My, what fun we shall all have come Sunday. Anyone familiar with Asterix & Obelix will recall how the wild boar frolic regularly on the lawn - this Baccanalian idyll is how I fondly imagine the mm volleyball gatherings will be. Complete with Shawn in a tutu...

Rock on! I'm in as a part timer at the very least and I'll try to become a regular if time permits. I hear you Rocco... I played on a couple decent Junior Olympic Volleyball squads when I was 13 & 14. That seems like an eternity ago.
Oh well, we'll try and shake the rust off, drink some beer and most importantly HAVE FUN! That sounds like a "weiner" to me! Count me in!!
Great idea... "Hair"-emy!
