For mothers, fathers and parents-to-be... If you haven't heard of it already, there is the annual Feria Bebé at IFEMA coming up. You can find more information by going to the website for Bebés y Mamás. Despite the title of the fair, it is for mothers and fathers ... for current and expecting parents. Apparently this fair is held in Barcelona, Madrid and Lisbon. The Madrid dates are 26th & 27th of November from 10 am - 8pm at the Parque Ferial Juan Carlos I. Cost is 10€ but you can download a discount coupon from the website. If anyone is interested in going let me know as we will probably be going. Sheila -- apart from the book about bilingual families, I also bought the book Que Se Puede Esperar Cuando Se Está Esperando (What You Can Expect When You Are Expecting). I got it at Booksellers as well. There is a nice chapter in it for the fathers' to be as well as some good information regarding after birth issues. I am going to be taking child birth classes at Centro de Educación Maternal, Rios Rosas 54. If you are interested in more information about them, let me know!

hey Chica. saw it (although briefly) 2 yrs. ago since it was going on at the same time as the "1001 bodas" weddings fair. imho, it was a waste of time (the wedding fair and the baby fair), just a huge temple of consumerism. promo, promo, promo for things to buy, buy, buy! but really not much in the way of advice, activities, etc... good thing they did not actually sell out of the fair or many would go broke unless it has changed (and i hope it has), you may want to skip it. let us know how it is if you do end up going. saludos, jer...

Do any of you here know of anyone who would be interested in sharing a flat with a working single mom of an 8 month old? I work 5 minutes from Plaza de Castilla and I do not have a car so northern would be ideal. I was hopeing to find another single mother, of any nationality. Anyone?

Hi Sheila... I think we would be up for it! Count us in! quote: I WAS GOING TO SEE IF WE CAN VARY THE MENU BECAUSE I CAN NOT EAT ANYTHING RAW (LIKE SALMON, OR ROASTBEEF).
That goes for most preggers. Although, roast beef isn't raw!

I am sorry guys but I have to cancel the plans for the brunch this sunday. I am under the weather and will not be able to organize it or attend. Sorry for the short notice but I will try to do something back from the holidays. Thanks.

Hi Noia! Congratulations!! How exciting...and on Christmas Day nonetheless! Like you, we share the same name and I am also planning on delivering at a private clinic through Adeslas in Madrid. I do have one question for you since my due date is coming up quick (Feb. 7). Did you ever write and present a birth plan to your OBGYN and/or clinic? If so, were they receptive to the idea? Just curious. I have been working on one, but haven't come across many people here that have done one. Thanks in advance! Congrats once again!

Chica,
That is quite the coincidence that we share the same name. Also, noia is chica in catalan, so we have the same screen name as well.
I actually about doing a birth plan, but I did not ever get around to giving it to anyone. Basically I only had two mail goals, I did not want a cesarian if it was not necessary and I did not want to be induced. I had my baby a week late, but managed to do it on my own. Also, I decided to stay at home as long as I could take it, and only spent the last three hours of labor in the hospital. I may have cut it a bit close but I´m glad I did it.
My main concusion about things here is that if you want to be different, you have to be assertive, but in the end you may not get to do everything you want.
Best wishes on your pregnancy and delivery and let me know if you have any more questions.
Rebecca
