Angelito just started daycare today! My little boy is growing up so fast! Here are some videos from the summer! Enjoy! Video 1Video 2Video 3Audio is highly recommended, especially for the 2nd video! Oh, and for those who are looking, apart from Sol y Luna School where our son is enrolled, I have just discovered another centro de educación infantil which is bilingual (Sol y Luna is exclusively English speaking). San Jorge Centro de Educación Infantil has two locations, one in Arturo Soria and the other in Chamartin. I don't know anything about them except that they are relatively new and are related to British Play School (in case that means anything to anyone). If someone checks them out and discovers their prices, etc...why not post it here so others will know? Saludos!

Age is a matter of mind, if you don't mind it doesn't matter.

hi JanaK and a BIG welcome to our spain forums quote: I am recently pregnant and about to give birth here. We would like for our child to become a Spanish citizen as we plan to live here.
i may be wrong but i believe the pure fact that your baby is born here will automatically make it a spanish citizen, even if neither you nor your husband are. i believe this is the same for any country. i was born in the u.k. but my father was american and my mother israeli. neither of my parents is a u.k. citizen but i am since i was born there. i only lived in scotland for about a month after being born and we then moved back to nyc, u.s.a. my father was in the u.s. navy and stationed in scotland and his 2 year tour of duty there was about up. i however did not "cliam" my u.k. citizenship until i was about 24 and wanted to come live in spain, that was when i applied for and got my u.k. passport. so, when born here in spain to an ameircan father and a czech mother, the baby will also be an american citizen and a czech citizen, congrats on a multi-citizenship baby now, as to where you need to go to formalize things and do the paperwork, that will require some looking into. maybe you should ask at the u.s. or czech embassy? they should be able to point you in the right direction. if i run into any more info online, i will post it here. saludos, jer...

Hi Sheila! That's so great that Jackie will be joining Angelito in daycare! The baby class keeps growing! I sent you a PM with my contact information so do get in touch with me when you are back in town. We'd love to get together with you guys. JanaK, congratulations on your pregnancy! I don't know that with both you and your husband not being Spanish your child will automatically be granted Spanish citizenship. What I can tell you is that when the baby is born, the hospital will give you a paper which you will need to take to the Registro Civil on Calle Pradillo to register your child's birth. At that point they will give you the birth certificate (certificado de nacimiento literal). I think you have a month to get this paper work done. When you get the birth certificate, request several original copies (I don't think it costs any money) as you will need to give one to the US Embassy for your child's registry of an overseas birth (so he can qualify for US citizenship), you will also need to provide one, if my memory serves me correctly, for his application for a passport and social security number. My recommendation is that you do all three of these processes at the same time and save yourself a lot of running around. You apply for all three at the US Embassy. Read through this thread (all 8 pages!) as I did document our process with our sons's registration. Good luck and if you have anymore questions, just post them here!

There is an interesting, albeit brief, article in Expatica about c-sections in Spain. Here's the link to the article: Excessive C-Sections.

interesting indeed. i had heard that the spanish obs are quick to resort to the scalpel but had no idea they were more apt. to do th c-section in private hospitals than in public ones the article did not mention it but i think the high percentage may have something to do with the fact that the health care sector (as in other sectors here in spain), customer service is poor and in general, workers are lazy and do not want to do more than the bare minimum. so, in a birth, this manifests itself into "get the baby out asap and on to the next one" saludos, jer...
