I recently read an article in the New Yorker that explains why c sections are more prevalent than before in the US. It mainly has to do with lowering the risk that something will go wrong. Here's the link to anyone who is interested. The article is pretty long (especially compared to the one in Expatica). HOW CHILDBIRTH WENT INDUSTRIAL

Thanks for the link, Noia. That was a VERY interesting article. I appreciate hearing the physicians' side of it, especially. Natural childbirth (and standard medical practice during hospital births) has been a hot topic in the press lately. If you're interested in this issue, a documentary about it is going to be shown next Monday, October 30th, on La 2... sometime in the late evening. I don't remember what time - check the TV schedule. Personally, I may be out carving pumpkins that night (seriously), but I'm going to try to tape it. On a different note, I'm tempted to start a new thread titled "TRYING to have babies in Madrid". No - not to have an excuse to talk about my sex life. But for those of us who've found that getting knocked up just ain't as easy as our mothers made us think it was. My hubby and I are going the in-vitro route, for example. I only metion it because (like Caesareans) the number of babies conceived through assisted-reproduction techniques is also on the rise in Spain... and assuming our multimadrid community keeps growing, others will probably be joining this special sub-set of happy parents as well. Anyway, best wishes to all future parents, and congrats to the new ones. Kristin

Hi Sheila, I sent you an email about the brunch this coming Sunday. I am surprised that I haven't heard from you. Anyway, Angel, Angel Ruben and I will definitely be there! We are anxious to meet Jackie and of course to see you and Cesar again... It has been a couple of years! I have also taken the liberty to invite another family along, so along with us three, add four more: Juan and Ana and their two little boys. Please let me (us) know what time we are meeting either through email or putting a post here. Thanks!

Hi there, sorry Chica and sorry Jer...Sheila is very much busy taking days-offs here and there and not following up with her invitations... Anyways, we have reserved a table for 12 adults (we are 8 now, meaning 4 chica, 2 jer, 2 Sheila, right?),and enough room for a stroller per couple(...that includes Jer!! ). Le Petit Bistrot website is www.lepetitbistrot.net (Plaza Matute)...about the time...she made the reservation at 13:00 on Sunday (the place opens at 12:30) . Anybody else want to tag along??

hey all. WOW! ena and i had a 4D sonogram done this week and... well, all i can say is WOW! i HIGHLY recommend having one to all future parents out there. sanitas covered part of it and the other part cost 90 euros in case anyone wants to know if it fits their budget. it was worth every cent and then some! i have selected the best video and put it at the link on my post at the link below... http://spaintalk.multimadrid.org/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=947...381058413#1381058413saludos, jer...
