Hi Vieve, well, this is certainly BAS expertise territory and I am sure he will be by soon. I hate to sound negative here but I think it will take at least ten times that amount of C.V.s sent out to get a decent response, a dozen is really nothing at all. Saludos & Suerte, jer...

Hello Vieve! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! So you are willing to take the plunge ha! Ok, but sad to say your one week in Madrid is not going to be enough. I say this because it will be quite impossible to really look for something in such a short period of time. Can you invest more time than this? Look at the other threads written and you will notice that you need to invest time in Madrid or Spain for the reason that you need to get that job offer first. You see once you get this you need to have this approved by the ministry of labor. Once thats approved you go back to your country of origin to do the paper works. Again let me elaborate on this. You can actually in another way have someone do this for you here without you coming over. Get the job offer or contract in writing then have this approved by the ministry of labor then you are on your way. Like i said the whole process takes 9 months maybe even longer. This really depends upon the breaks you get. I have always suggested that you dont be choicy initially; the objective is getting here legally with papers and then you move on. Why do i say this? Because it will open the doors for employment especially with your background including teaching "legally". I met someone the other day and "she" was teaching English here for the past year and a half. The question is: Is she legal? That i dont know. Follow the route i suggest because it will avoid problems and at least a sense of stability. The doors will open if you are legal especially with your qualifications. You can call on Jer or even myself once you come over. I am more than willing to help you out start your campaign to legally live in Spain. Regards and best of luck. BAS

Hi BAS!!! Thanks sooo much for responding to my plea for help ok, so unfortunately i can't spend more than a week in Madrid (time & $$) so i've got to work with what i have... which is 8 hours a day online, one week in Madrid, and 8 months after returning from that trip to figure out the details... like i said, i don't care what kind of job i have to take, as long as it makes me legal and pays my rent... i guess what i'm wondering now is what kind of job i should be looking for that has the best chance of getting me legal 'cause up til now i've only been looking for teaching positions... at one point i think you mentioned cleaning/maid services... if that's really a field that i can get hired in from here legally i'm willing to do it... but how do you find out? is it all just luck at this point? hope it doesn't seem like i'm asking the same questions just phrased differently... i'm just still a little unsure about how to proceed... i am committed!!! Merry Christmas!!!!

Hi If you are really not bothered about the work you do then you could try and find out about getting an au pair job here. There are some agencies on-line. It is then possible to get a 1 year visa provided you show you are attending some language classes. You would need to check out all the details but friends of mine who have come here on au pair contracts find they have enough time to themselves during the days and weekends to then pursue other things for longer term opportunities to stay. Sorry can't give you agency names today but will ask my friends when they return from their Christmas breaks if you want. It's an option to consider....? Merry Christmas from my seriously underheated apartment in Madrid! Louise

Vieve! Look for the "cupos" which is quota.(There is a certain quota for these jobs.) If this is available, then youre on your way since the chances of your application being approved is 100%. Saludos! Happy New Year to you and your family! BAS
