Hola phillyboy, welcome aboard the forums
Well, I see that you are from the U.S.A. so, unless you are hiding a EU passport, residency or work permit, your first task will be to become legal here so you can actually get a job and make a life here if that is what you want to do.
I am not going to go into the process of becoming legal here since it has been thouroughly covered on this forum, just check out the many other threads on the subject and pay special attention to the stuff written by "BAS" (member #47 and my residency and work permit expert), he really seems to know his stuff.
Just go back to the main forum page at
www.multimadrid.com/cgi-bin/jersbbucgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=14 and look at the posts on work/and or residency, it is a real eye opener
As I said, there are always some "off the books" jobs stll lying around to be found if you are lucky but a legal contract is mor eand more the norm here so whether it is a teaching gig or a tourism job, the companies will not look at you if you are not legalized.
Hope this info helped,
Saludos,
jer...
