Good news! The mailman came to the door today and guess what he had?!

MY VISA!!!!

I am pleasantly surprised to have received my visa so quickly. Props to the Consulate for sending it back within 10 days. Just a note to any others who may be experiencing similar problems: include a note in the application stating your need for prompt service. I think that may have speeded up the process. Thanks again to everyone for your help! Looks like I'll being seeing you guys soon as I leave in 16 days!

Ciao,
Brian

Just wondering, yes you can recieve your student visa here in USA, but legaly you can stay in Spain for 90 days. But n e ways, what I am saying is , if your not able to recieve your Visa before you leave, can you acquire your Visa once you are in Spain?!

Thanks

Hey Clark, I'm no pro but I am pretty sure you would have to go back to your home country and pick it up personally. I do not think you can have it sent to Spain.

Thanks for confirming that Shawn, I guessed as much since Chica a few posts up wrote...

quote:
I had to fly back to the USA to pick up my visa
It has been a while since I have needed a VISA but I think that they are still pasted or stamped into one's passport, right? Yhat would mean that you would need to go back personally to get it since, being abroad, your passport would naturally be with you.

Jer,

You have to do it in person. The Spanish Embassy wants to make sure that the person requesting the Visa is YOU. Many have tried to get someone else to do it, but it doesn't work.

Looking forward to seeing you in December.

Shawn

Well, I will definetly have problems then!

I was desperet to return to Madrid this fall for class, so I have done everything very quickly. So now, I leave the 2nd of September and still have not recieved my " Provisional Acceptance for Extrenjeros " at Complutense after I have transfered them the 12euros and everything. And this is the only thing I need to have everything to apply for my Student Visa. Once I arrive and attend registration the 10th of September, will I only be accepted with a student visa?!?!

Any suggestions anyone?

How about, entering Spain, getting my official acceptance to the University ( If accepted without student visa ) and sending my passport and everything back to USA and let my mother send it into Miami, recieve the Visa, then send it back to me in Spain? (major run-on sentence I know lol )

Or what I meant to say earlier in the Poll, was " Can I go to a Spain goverment office in Spain to apply there? "

I live in Atlanta , so its sorda hard to appear in person at the Miami Consultine to get it the same day - Is there such thing as express application for an extra fee?

Thanks guys

With today being the 17th of August, Id say you have exactly two weeks to get your act together. As hard as it might be, take a weekend trip to Miami (if thats where you have to go for your visa... why not a closer consulate??), make sure it extends over a Friday or Monday and get your vist done to get your paperwork together.

Mailing your passport from Spain would be a really foolish thing to do (in my opinion). And, I dont think your mother will be able to pick it up for you. Immigration laws have gotten much tougher here in Spain. The purpose of you picking up your visa is so that if for whatever reason it is denied, you are not already in Spain. As was explained to me when I had to go back for mine... it is sort of like self deportation...if you are denied the visa then you have essentially deported yourself from the country on your own dime.

Clark, dont know what your personal situation is, but with two weeks to go, I dont see personally getting the student visa an insurmountable problem. I am sure you will have equally challenging, if not moreso, situations once you arrive here in Spain!

Good luck!

Hey thanks for the quick reply Chica!

Maybe a quick trip down to Miami might not be too bad!! Big Grin

Will I be able to go and receive my visa all in the same day?

I have read to be sorda, I guess you would say, rude to get it fast, but that was in NY. Anyone know how it is in Miami?

Hey,

I know that I am totally reiterating what was already said, but...

BE FIRM! I had SUCH problems and delays because they just did not want to help me. One day, I got so fed up and frustrated that I demanded to speak to the manager as soon as I got a real person on the phone and told them my story. If they are at all responsive, TAKE DOWN THEIR NAME. Then, when you get to the consulate, tell them that so-and-so assured you that you would get your visa ASAP. They have the ability to do it right there on the spot so don't be afraid to go for it. I am usually a pretty passive person but I quickly realized that you just have to be direct and unwavering if you want to get what you want. I would imagine that two weeks should be enough time, but start acting on it quickly.

Good luck,
Brian

I still say that the only way to get everything done in the same day is to go to the Spanish Embassy in Washington, DC. They gave me my visa the same day. I made it just under the wire, right befroe 12:00 lunch time. I don't think that that will happen at a consulate at all. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Shawn
