?que tal mis amigos? i'm teaching in south korea right now, but want to get back to a spanish speaking country. i've got some friends in spain (and other nearby places), have no desire to get a 9-5 in the states, so am looking to relocate to spain in the next 6-8 months.

i'm wondering about how to go about it legally. i've seen plenty of postings that say you can go, apply, and get jobs without papers or tefl degrees. is this true? or, should i say, how true is this?

can i get a job from outside of spain? i don't really think so. should i just show up and start lookin'?

i was in oviedo for two months, finishing up at a university there, then backpacked around for another month with a friend. i fell in love with the latin lifestyle in mexico, and had a blast in spain - any chance to get back to it would rock.

if anyone can help me (the same sorry request that everyone else is asking), please let me know. post here, or email me at sockol@hotmail.com

si puedo encontrar trabajo en cualquier lugar, y me ayudes, estre tan feliz - y por supesto te invito a tomar una copa con migo. hast que encontremos.

Hi raswan, jer here.

Weclome to my message board, good for what ails you .

I certainly hope BAS drops in since he is the resident expert on illegals becoming legal here in sunny Spain.

As for the finding a job before you arrive, it is the same deal with looking for an apartment. In 99% of the cases you have to be here in order for it to be an effective search.

As an English teacher, you should have no problem getting gigs here once you are legal. Teaching can be lucrative but tiring as well since many companies run you ragged sending you to in-company classes.

Saludos & Suerte Big Grin

jer, you da man. i'm luvin' your site already. it sounds like it takes awile to get legal in spain (i'll wait for BAS to drop by and fill me in) - do i really have to go back to the US to pick up the papers? Confused

can't wait to be chillin' like a villan in spain again!

i know that you are the madrid nut, but what about other, smaller towns? how is work there? i was in cadiz (which was a nice little town) and it'd be killer to live on the beach. is the competition pretty stiff in places like that? how's sevilla?

once again, thank you much. Wink

Raswan,

Yes! Ill help you with some insights. There are jobs in Spain even if you come as a tourist. You can always get a teaching job and get paid under the table but thats that. After 3 months you have to live the country and i have heard others staying as illegals after that. My question is, would you like to remain an illegal alien for the rest of your stay? My next question is, if you get caught you will be shipped out and banned from entering Spain for 10 years. Do you like it this way? Lastly, Is it really worth it to do it this way? I dont think so.

Here is my two cents worth of advise. Come to Spain as a tourist between the months of; End September till end June. Look for a job that teaches English or even as a helper and asked them to work for your papers legally. The best route is the helper route since chances of your application being approved is good. Again, even this route has become harsh since they have closed the cupos or in English the quote has been stop for the moment, so keep your eyes and ears open once this is open again for applications. The process has been stated in one of the threads i wrote on how to come to Spain legally. It is always better to have some links with Spain if you have them too because you dont need to be a part of the cupos

Have an Ascesor explain you the process with a small fee and then take that to your employer and let him/her work for the papers.
Remember you have to go back home to do all this and in your case back to the U.S.A. If you are here legally then i do not see why you cant find a better job. There is lots of them, but again do not be choosy. One thing i know is that the English route can also have dry spells like summer. Always plan every step of the way at least on your first year and then thats that you move along steadily but surely. Once in Spain you are in Europe and Europe is the big place to get a good job if you really want one. Ill stick to Madrid coz the opportunities and the lifestyle is greater. Right Jer!

I hope i was able to assist you regarding this matter.
