This is so frustrating, I'm finding loads of adverts for Barcelona but hardly anything for Madrid. How is that possible? Does no one know of a family that might need a nanny or an AuPair for Feb? I'm taking my TEFL in January so I can't start any earlier, but I will be better qualified to teach english to their children at least. By the way, in case someone wanted to nanny in just about any other part of the world, I've found loads of stuff as well. Makes me think what am I doing, I've found jobs for Rome, Milan, Paris, Istanbul, Hong Kong, and loads of other areas in Spain, just not Madrid. I'm one seriously frustrated Nanny!!!!

That helps alot, only I'm having problems with understanding alot of it. I really have to improve my reading level. Some one also told me about another site, but I'm having problems with viewing the positions. It's www.icanguro.comI can't make any sense of the site aside from posting my CV but maybe someone else will have better luck with it.

Hey Nanny, I found this ad in the InMadrid newspaper this month... quote: JOB OFFERSAu-pairs girls/women wishing to work in intern positions are needed (English or French native speakers)Working and sleeping in a house in Madrid or other cities in Spain. Main duties are related with taking care of children. Applicants should be responsible and with referencesof previos jobs in or outside Spain. Salaries around 600/month plus social security. Phone: (+34) 91 547 42 65Web page: www.empleadosdomesticos.com Email: Foreign@empleadosdomesticos.com
I know you are do not prefer an Au-pair position but from the ad, they "seem to" pay more than your average 50/week you mentioned. There website is only in Spanish and the company is called C.S.C. It is on Calle de las Hileras, literally a 3 minute walk from my apt. between my place and my office. If you want me to pass by for you and get any more info or ask them specific questions, feel free to e-mail them to me. Just a lead, wish I could help more but I know less than nothing about being a nanny. 600/month free and clear (I assume room and board is paid for if they are live-in positions) is not a bad start. I can't help but think you should take even a lower paying Au-pair spot just to get your foot in the door. You also have a big advantage as you are a native English speaker and many families want that so you can speak/teach English to their children. Saludos, jer...

Ok guys, I've got big news! Today I've accepted a position, but sadly not for Madrid, I'm moving to Holland for at least a year. I know, Holland was not even something I thought about, but when the position came up and I was asked to go on the interview, I thought, why not. I've got nothing to lose and it might be an interesting job. Well that turned out to be the case.
Single mother with two daughters is moving over for work and wanted an American to go with them. She's moving to Amsterdam. I will have the top floor to myself, thought I will have to share a shower/bathtub with her and her daughters, but thats pretty common to only have one bathing room in Holland so no big deal. The money's not fab, but it's fair and is more than I would earn in Madrid. It's also only a 30 hour week and then two months paid holiday plus the house she's renting is right in the heart of Amsterdam, so at least I get to move back to a city.
Most importantly the mother is really nice and I got on well with her and her daughters are adorable. I'm sad I'm not getting to move back to Madrid right away but I'm also very excited as well, especially about getting to live in Holland in the spring when all the tulips bloom. I'm also putting the TEFL course on hold for the moment, I can always come back to that and Madrid in the future.
The biggest perk as far as I'm concerned is that it's a shorter flight and with two months holiday I'll have loads of opportunities to come and visit Madrid. Yea!!! Is anyone here from Holland or ever been that can tell me about it?
I'm planning on keeping up with this board as well, so you guys will feel like you know me already by the time we finally meet. Salud, Bonnie
