Question regarding rooms/apts: Because I'm not familiar with the area, what areas of the city should I be searching in?

Question for all New Yorkers (ahehm jer?):

I will be flying into Baltimore to see a friend, then taking a train to Penn Station to fly out of Laguardia (NYC to MAD is cheaper than BWI to MAD by $400).

Can anyone tell me what to expect or how to get to Laguardia from Penn Station? And will it be expensive via cab? Or? Quick responses a plus.

I am purchasing tickets in the next couple of days. I plan on leaving the States on June 7th.

Thanks all,

T

Hey,

Quick question. Are you flying from LaGuardia to Madrid direct? LaGuardia is domestic only. Do you mean JFK airport or are you connecting to an intl. airport from LaGuardia.

Check out this website..

http://www.panynj.gov/aviation/lgaframe.HTM

The first menu box lists all transportation options to LaGuardia airport. There are a bunch of public buses that go, but they are not very accomodating to large suitcases. There are no direct subways. A taxi will set you back about 30$. Your best bet I think will be the express buses from Penn-LGA. Either way..give the website a look over.

Regards,

Michael

Hey Modigy...

training it from Baltimore to NYC? Ughhh... Have you gotten your train tix yet? last time I took Amtrak from 30th St. Station in Philadelphia to Penn Station in NYC, it was $168 r/t and that was about 6 years ago. How much of a savings is it really to take a train from Baltimore to Penn Station and then have to get from Penn Station to the airport?? I would imagine with the amount of luggage you are coming with it would be much more of a hassle than the value of a minimal savings. How about taking a puddle jumper from BWI to La Guardia? Or, are you still looking at the same costs? There has got to be a cheapie domestic carrier that does those kinds of flights... no?

There's a bus that goes to both airports from Penn Station... It costs around $10.

As I remember, Amtrak from DC to NY one-way is usually around $65 if you don't take the Acela (high speed). It might be simpler to do it that way if you are in downtown Baltimore, since BWI is a bit of a hike out of town...

Hi,

The cost of the bus from PENN-LAG is like 10$ and the buses are big suitcase ready so I don't see that as being a big inconvenience.

Ok here's the deal:

Amtrak:
Departure -
Baltimore, MD
Penn Station
(BAL)
9:17 am
06-JUN-05

Arrival -
New York, NY
Penn Station
(NYP)
11:45 am
06-JUN-05
----------- $73.00

Iberia
Departure -
Depart: New York, NY @ 9:00 PM
John F Kennedy Intl (JFK)
Arrive: Madrid, ES @ 10:10 AM
Barajas (MAD)
Tuesday, June 7, 2005

Return -
Thursday, August 25, 2005

Depart: Madrid, ES @ 1:00 PM
Barajas (MAD)
Arrive: New York, NY @ 3:15 PM
John F Kennedy Intl (JFK)
--------- $571.40

The flight out of Baltimore for the same dates is $888.34. Therefore if I take a $73.00 train and a $10, $20, $30 bus or cab to the JFK airport I can save $200.00.

Please let me know MMers what the best way to reach JFK from Penn Station.

By the way...I have a backpack...like the hikers. I won't be bringing lots of suitcases.

Thanks,

T
