INSTRUCTOR - COMPUTER / BUSINESS / MATH

Salary Range: $25,962.63 - $44,916.50

Job Description: The position is located in the Division of Instruction, under the direct supervision of the Chair of the Business Department, and under the day-to-day supervision of the Rota Campus Administrator. It is charged with the responsibility of assisting the College in fulfilling its educational mission by providing instruction in various business, computer applications, and mathematics courses.
The incumbent is expected to perform with minimal supervision a broad range of administrative/secretarial work assigned by the Dean, including but not necessarily limited to the following:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaches a total of 30 credit hours per academic year (Fall and Spring) in the areas of Business, Computer Applications (including word processing, spreadsheet applications, and database software), and Mathematics. Uses a variety of teaching methods designed to enhance student learning, reading and writing proficiency, interpretive abilities, and development of critical thinking skills;
Provides academic advising for Business Management, Accounting, and Computer Applications majors and assists students in registration;
Administers mathematics placement tests and transmits results to Saipan campus;
Prepares and revises curriculum and syllabi for courses taught. Reviews textbooks and other curricular materials for adoption, and recommends books to NMC Library to support courses;
Develops, administers, evaluates, and scores tests and exams for courses taught;
Evaluates student learning, records and submits course grades, and maintains records of student performance and attendance;
Maintains office hours for consultation with students;
Exhibits sensitivity to students’ personal, cultural, and gender differences in a non-threatening learning environment;
Participates in faculty meetings, workshops, conferences, and available professional development activities;
Participates in departmental and/or institutional committee work and other college-wide activities;
Participates in community activities for College representation, student recruitment, and other purposes of institutional advancement, as assigned;
Assists the Chair, as requested, by conducting classroom observations of department faculty, both full-time and adjunct, and submitting written reports of these observations to the Chair for faculty evaluation purposes;
Reviews the qualifications of adjunct faculty to teach courses within the employee’s areas of expertise, and makes recommendations to the Chair and the Rota campus administrator regarding certification hiring;
Assists the department in developing, revising, and implementing goals and objectives related to areas of expertise. Works cooperatively with other departments and programs in achieving NMC’s goals;
Strives continuously to improve program quality, teaching effectiveness, and professional competence. Participates in ongoing departmental efforts to improve curriculum and the teaching--learning environment. Shows commitment to work in an environment committed to Total Quality Improvement (TQI);
Develops and maintains for evaluation purposes a Performance Portfolio which documents teaching performance and outcomes, demonstrates involvement and achievement in College and community activities, and reflects continuous professional growth;
Provides the Chair with information for textbook orders for Rota;
Maintains a good working relationship with department personnel and other College employees;
Adheres to College policies and procedures;
Performs other duties as requested.
Performance Evaluation: The employee’s job performance will be appraised annually in accordance with provisions of the NMC Board of Regents’ policy on Annual Evaluation of Employees.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Business Management, Computer Science, or related discipline, with the ability to teach a variety of business, computer applications, and mathematics courses, plus a minimum of two (2) years teaching experience at the postsecondary level. Applicants with teaching experience in the Pacific/Asia area or other international setting, will be given preference.
