The IKEA store in Sevilla is not new...I believe it was there during my first visit to Spain in 98...

Ive heard theres an IKEA opening in Boston soon....I cant wait to check it out!

Thanks for the communal finger-crossing, everyone!

i had a read of that working in spain article, there are quite a few flaws in it, i thought. i've worked here for three years now and i know no-one who is on holidays for a third of the year.

i'd advise you to take the whole article with a pinch (or bucket) of salt.

harmless- that time was cumulative if you put all of the puentes, vacations etc together.

If you don't have that much vacation time- you're being exploited! Red Face

i realise that, but it's very misleading.

most ppl have 22/23 working days holidays (which they usually take as a calendar month, ie july/august, which moreover is usually the jornada intensiva, ie you actually get less hours holidays), plus a specific number of statutory holidays.

not all companies automatically give puentes, and as far as i know, they are not given in addition to your annual leave (but as part of the number of statutory holidays. i could be wrong on this, but its what i understand).

in the company where i work most ppl also come in on the weekends (saturday and sunday) and almost everyone does overtime. we get an hour lunch, which is not unusual nowadays.

personally i'd prefer 9-5 and have time outside work to spend with friends than the 9-10 (to 12 hours a day, plus weekends) that you pasar pipa (the impression the article gives) in the office.

and that's not the only thing i'd disagree with!

Cool

Hey harmless, I too found that article, while interesting, to be off on quite a few points.

Oh, and the Kebab thin also peeved me, the person who wrote the article is NOT experiencing Spain (gastronomy) if he is eating one every day.

Not to get off the jobs in Spain topic but, why get a Kebab and a drink Frowner for 4+ Euros when you can still get a good men del da for 6 Big Grin

Ok harmless, I think they are abusing you guys, Sat. and/or Sun. Eeker That is horrible!!!

Just the other day a Spanish guy came to buy a phone card from me and explained why he had trouble making my Mon.-Fri. 11am to 3pm office hours Big Grin

He said that he works at Price Waterhouse as a financial anylist and has to work 9am to 9 or 10pm Mon.-Fri. with an hour for lunch and most Saturdays too. Ok, I know that is the corporate world but he is being paid 1,100 Euros/month, YIKERS!!!! Well, I told him to go be a financial anylist in Manhattan and make $5,000 or more/month to start. If he is gonna kill himself at least he should be paid well for it Roll Eyes

Saludos,
jer...
