I did find many of things in the article out of date. But, like Espe3 and Jer say, it is all about enchufes, no matter where you go in this world. Shawn

Crap! Why can't these people wait until I get there this fall?!?! I have to update my CV anyways... oh well. But hey, if they're looking for 'british nationality' (that proves nothing) guess my passport won't cut it. Jer- looks like a part time possibility for you! You can always bluff the time you've 'lived' in England!

Hi madsue, in this context "licenciado" just means someone with a college degree. As in one needs a college degree to be considered for the position. Saludos, jer...

I went for an interview last week with one of the companies you mentioned, vaughan systems, and I left feeling a little disappointed in some ways, the first thing she said to me was "youre young and you look it" when seeing as she had my birthdate already, that was a little obvious. And it felt like the company and herself had been extremely friendly and optimistic in emails, but when it came to the interview, it felt as though they wanted some kind of rocket science out of me rather than teaching, and I felt I could actually meet their standards, but also felt that they were sceptical of this - not a great feeling and also pointlessly pessimistic. one other thing - this is useless for americans, but for any Brits reading, next winter/spring you can start applying for next years british council tefl sponsorship, where they find the teaching, accomodation for you and all the rest, but obviously its competitive. the websites: www.languageassistant.co.uk
what the hell am I doing again?

Hello, all, long time no? Regarding the first post, about working hours, which is the thread topic, I agree that there is a tendency for employers in Madrid to pressure employees to stay late and work weekends. You don't have to, you have a work contract which specifies how many hours a week you work, which normally should be 35 to 40. UGT or CCOO, the 2 largest unions, if you call them or send them an email they will happily contact your employer to explain what are the current labour laws and it will be done without mentioning your name. In some larger offices there is a union subdelegation. I would suggest reading over the Convenio Laboral for your job classification, it explains quite a bit, your rights and the employer's obligations. As for overtime, these hours (as far as the convenio for informtica) must be paid at 1.75 + holiday rate if I recall correctly. If anyone has questions pop me an email, I joined CCOO some time ago. Their website is www.ccoo.es, and I'm waiting for strike season again so we can go down to Sol and suck some tear gas and rubber bullets!! :jeje: Just joshing on that one! -L
