Teaching Job
M to Th, 3 to 5pm, in the center of Madrid. Contract is between you and the employer...no academies or middlemen. Pay is 24 an hour, minus 15% taxes. I will have more details this weekend, but I'd like some interested CVs before then.
Legality is not relevant, though say you are even if you are not...what is relevant is EXPERIENCE...if you don't have it, don't bother sending your CV to me. This is not a job for a fresh-off-the-tarmac-gosh-I-speak-English-so-I-can-teach-English person!
I need your CVs by Friday...send them to candela@alocom.net When I have more details, I will let you know what they are by email!
Cheers, Candela

quote: Time and time again I read on the board English teachers whining and bitching about no money and here is a major cush job with big money and no interest. As a very good English teacher who loves the work...I've never had problems finding jobs or making money...then again I am a go-getter who is not afraid of challenges.
Candy, I agree with you 100%. I have posted a couple of job offers and have been surprised at the lack of response. I think what scares the moaners and the whiners off is when we specify that we are looking for serious English teachers... not the backpackers. Sorry to take an elitist point of view, but my business is built around English teaching and cannot afford to have a non-serious teacher ruin my growing business or reputation. I received your email and just smiled knowing full well there is NO WAY I could take advantage of the offer! I just don't have the time because I am up to my eyeballs in classes. I can only repeat what you have so eloquently stated: If you are serious about your work, there is serious work to be had! Good luck filling the posts!

Candela, just as feed-back, you probably didn't give enough notice. I mentioned it to a couple of friends of mine, but they didn't have an updated resume. Most of the teachers I know here in Madrid go on the web maybe once a week, so you might get more replies soon, but only giving a two-three days notice is hardly what they need.
I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.

maybe it has something to do with timing... in defense of us english teachers, we did the crying and moaning in sept/oct and by now most of us probably have enough work and even if not, that time slot is probably filled at least one out of the four days mentioned...if we don't have a class, maybe we need some of that time to travel to a class... so please, a little bit of understanding... most people now aren't looking for work... still great that you posted the offer but i think it's understandable that people who don't have the time don't respond... not a lack of interest, a lack of time. if somebody had offered me that in early october, i would have taken it without blinking an eye, as i consider myself qualified and worthy or the good pay! but now, as it is almost december, i am, like chica, up to my eyeballs in classes, although much lower paying ones! that's life.
live, love, laugh and be happy!

The problem is that most of us have work by now. Its really frustrating how the good jobs come up a bit later than the others - those of us who don't have any savings have to take whatever is going in September/October. When these things come up many of us are already booked up. And even if we were free at 3-5, those of us who teach in the Madrid equivalent of Outer Mongolia (Mirasierra) in the evening can't make it all the way over there in that time. I doubt many people are actually going "Hmm... Well paid job that fits my timetable perfectly... No I won't apply". There must be reasons. Phew, that was me getting myself off the hook for not having replied! But I do agree that EFL teachers in this country kind of suck at sorting jobs out. Look at my Academies Directory thread that I started a while back - now there is something ALL teachers could post on, and virtually no-one did. Candela, I didn't see YOU post on my Academy thread! Jer, please do me a favor. Any discussion that anyone starts about a job, PLEASE ERASE. We should only place job offers on the board and leave it at that. Thank you, Shawn

I have another one....
Monday and Friday, 2 to 330 or 4
One on one with the Spanish director general of a very famous Italian fashion design group.
Location, Paseo del Prado, closest metro is Banco de Espana.
Pay: 18 an hour, minus 15% tax...so that is 15.3,if you are legal you will probably get the tax back..I think...well, I have no idea how that works. If you are illegal you'll get nothing back.
Requirements: they are looking for someone who has experience, truly enjoys teaching, and has a professional appearance...mainly because of the client and his position in the fashion industry.
When: they want to start in December but are not sure because of the puente.
If interested, email me at candyleelaballe@yahoo.com
