All,

You may or may not be aware that Seville is the sister city to my beloved city, Kansas City!! I'm sure TonyT remembers the Plaza lighting ceremony. There is a shopping district in downtown Kansas City known as "The Plaza". It was modeled after Seville Spain and each year on Thanksgiving night they "turn on" the Christmas lights in the Plaza.

For those of you interested, feel free to check out some photos of the Plaza Lights taken last week:

You know something funny Tony. I briefly browsed through today's new topics this morning. (My schedule cuts down on my topic viewing time of late! Frowner ) When I read the title of this thread this morning: Plaza Lights, my brain instinctively though, The Kansas City Plaza of course, but multimadrid logic soon kicked in and I said to myself, That's going to be Plaza Mayor lights since they have the Christmas 'mercadillo' in full swing at present. (I know jer....sacrilege....sacrilege.... Wink Red Face )

Only now this afternoon after having finished a new PERL script, I have a few minutes and have revisited this thread...One comment: TTTHHHAAANNNKKK YYYOOOUUU!!! This is certainly Spain pertinent as Kansas City is most certainly the official sister city of Seville (Sevilla). As a matter of fact, of Kansas City's 13 sister cities (SEE HERE), Sevilla is our FIRST sister city and is well loved in Our home city.

Your pics are great Tony but I found a few others. This one's nice for example: (That large one is a GORGEOUS copy of 'la giralda')

One other thing, and I realize perfectly well that absolutely nobody is going to read this, is that the KC newspaper offers a special on the Plaza lighting tradition RIGHT HERE with interesting history and really nice photos. I loved it but I grew up half a mile from the plaza in Westwood so I'm certain that I identify with it perhaps even more than Tony. Wink Okay, I can say it...obsession... Mad I literally grew up right in the heart of this area. Should anybody have an obscenely significant amount of time on their hands, feel free to either inform yourself or test the limits of your narcolepsy medication! Red Face

poseso.... Tony

OK, I actually found this link interesting, so I read it all. I have a couple of comments, for modigy, thanks for the pics, pretty cool...

To TonyT: 1. KC has 13 sister cities? sheesh, the term promiscuous comes to mind... 2. Perl script, my god, are you done fixing your brand new chevy nova... Red Face

I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.

TonyT,

You're very welcome! I actually lived on the Plaza and now live just a couple of blocks away. I'm down there every day now studying for some IT certifications so that I can get my butt over to Espana the mother country!!!

I've been working on taking pics of some of my favorite places before I leave. It also gives me an excuse to use my digital camera, which I've had over a year and hardly used Smiler

You would be surprised at some of the changes that have occured over the past several years: the River City Market is now fully developed with some expensive lofts and tons of shops, Mid-Town has expensive Condos ($150k - $300k) and is a full fledged art district, the Nelson-Atkins art gallery is in the process of expansion and remodeling. It's going to be even bigger and more beautiful. Just a few things to be proud of and remember before I leave.
