today is a holiday in Madrid but not in Tres Cantos. Which is really nice because all the stores are open and the wife is off big grin

but when we drove over to Alconbendas I discovered all the stores were closed.

So did you have to work today or not?

that is odd. maybe alcobendas is part of madrid. we took advantage of the day off to file our wedding papers at the town hall in leganes which was not closed today. we then had lunch with the soon-to-be inlaws at the avenida 40 mall and then shopped...everything was open!

My boyfriend works in Tres Cantos but his company did give them the day off. I think some towns near Madrid will sometimes keep Madrid holidays, or maybe some companies, specially when many of their employees live in Madrid. On the other hand, maybe Alcobendas also celebrates San Isidro or they have another saint or holiday that happens to be on the same date.

My wife's company keeps Madrid holidays as well. I do find it odd that each city has it's own holidays, could see each province doing that.
